Disney Not all sequels, mind you. Just the cheap direct-to-DVD sequels of classic films like BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and THE LITTLE MERMAID that Disney has been consistently churning out for the last few years. Feeling a need to go back to a time before Disney started whoring their characters for a quick buck, John Lasseter and Ed Catmull, who took over Disney's animation division, Disney Toon Studios when Disney bought Pixar, have decided they'll no longer put up with Disney's cheapo direct-to-DVD sequel whoring. They've decided that even the direct-to-DVD features need to be as original and thought-provoking as Pixar's CG features. Lasseter and Catmull had previously expressed their contempt for the poor quality of Disney's direct-to-DVD sequels so it's good to see they've taken action to put an end to them. The first original DVD feature will be a film starring Tinkerbell and an original line-up of fairy characters (a film we've mentioned before).

Extra Tidbit: The last direct-to-DVD sequel to be made will be THE LITTLE MERMAID III: UNDA DA SEA BOOGALOO.

Oh fucking please. Thought provoking as the stuff by Pixar? Give me a break, Catmull.

Either way, this is good news. I had given up hope for another sequel (a real one) to "The Lion King", which's sequel was very, very good. So either way, I'm impartial.

But stop licking Pixar's balls, Disney.

Thank God for Pixar
I can honestly say that I never watched any of the DVD sequels - Now, I know they weren't geared for me anyway, but the whoring out of the Disney catalogue always made me sad. "Ratatouile" was... Goddamn brilliant, and while I didn't much care for "Cars," I'd still say Pixar is batting 1000. I love that the Pixar team is steering the ship and I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

This is old news. You also forgot to mention that they want to stop making straight-to-DVD original features all together, after they release TINKERBELL and ENCHANTED DREAMS.

Good, too!

Now they just need to get Chris Sanders (who created "Lilo & Stitch," Disney's only successful, non-Pixar movie in many, many, many years) onto some projects ASAP...instead of yanking his successful @$$ off of projects all the time.

Good!
One step closer to making more ORIGINAL movies.

Now if only the world of remakes, revisionings, reimaginings, etc. would perish...
