I know that a lot of people positively loath it when someone comments that they dislike a movie before it has even been made, but I'm sorry I already pretty much hate THE MUMMY 3. I just don't know why it's happening. I don't know, I might be a little harsh towards the film because even though he seems like a thoroughly decent guy, I just can't appreciate Brendan Fraser as a leading man. I also hate to see Jet Li have to do time as a Mummy. Anyway, up-and-coming Aussie actor Luke Ford (THE BLACK BALLOON) has taken the role as Fraser's kid, Alex. The story will look at what happens when Alex discovers the mummy of the first Emperor of Qin... Actually, I'm going to let you guess the end of that synopsis, as I conduct a little experiment:

The story will look at what happens when Alex discovers the mummy of the first Emperor of Qin...

a) ... who is angry about being woken and seeks revenge upon the O'Connell family and mankind as a whole.

b) ... who seeing what mankind has become in his absence, vows to eradicate it.

c) ... who mistakes Alex for a nunchuk wielding goblin that had once cheated him in a shell game.

d) ... who awakens as a shape-shifter that was for some reason cursed by a female wizard.

If you went for option (d) then you will be pleased when you check this movie out, but if every sensibility told you it had to be either (a) or (b), well then you, like me, must at least hate this movie a little bit.

JOBLO didn't write this article, James Thoo did. He's one of the 5 news editors we have on the site, all of which have differing opinions on differing projects, much like every other schmoe out there. I LOVED the original MUMMY and consider it to be one of the funner popcorn flicks from the last decade.

They're popcorn flicks just like The Mummy movies! Difference being, The Mummy 3 is going forward with a completely idiotic production plan that radically changes the formula from the first two movies (no Weisz, limited Fraser, Asian Mummy, etc).

I liked the first two Mummy movies too, but I'm not under the illusion that just because I liked the first two that the third one will be "enjoyable." Man, that argument is so weak..."You can't this movie! It's [link] It may be true, but it's also an unimaginative and lazy rationale.

Know what else is dumb? JoBlo's constant cynicism towards EVERY movie that falls below his standards. Not only do you watch the movies, dude, but there's like millions of other people who watch them. I really wish they went with option (b). That sounds so much cooler and interesting. Might even add some substance to what will sure to be a stylish film.

Okay, I'm only "hip" to this news because of that [link] ditty that Mr. Thoo pulled off. That was a funny bit, dude. Shape-shifter cursed by a female wizard? I know the first two movies weren't exactly exhibitions of natural laws and Einstein's theory of relativity but COME ON!

I actually do appreciate the fact that the creative team behind this flick wanted to go in a different direction; I just think it's very much the wrong direction.

This one is looking like it's going to be terrible. I'll leave my mind open to the possibility of this flick surprising everybody and being halfway decent, and somewhat watchable, but all in all, I'm not expecting much.

EDIT: Just read the story over at moviehole.com that this article links to...and it looks like Rachel Wiez's character is going to be re-cast. Wow. It's one thing for TDK to move on up from Katie Holmes to Maggie Gyllenhaal....but there really isn't any room for improvement in THIS case.

MUMMY SUCKS
The Mummy movies are some of my least favorite of all time. They had a pretty good story...excellent villian...good special effects and production value...only to be ruined by oafish acting(Fraser is not the only one) HORRIBLE dialogue that made me want to stab myself in the ears, and retarded comic relief in the form of Kevin J O'Connor, who Sommers loves for some reason. SUCK SUCK SUCK.

The mummy
I really enjoyed both movies and i also liked the spin-off which was scorpion king (mainly because i am a huge ROCK fan). I have been waiting for a sequel to the mummy franchise for a long time and i cant wait to see it.
Anyways, back the options laid out up there, Option C was hilarious.
