Goonies 2 dead Oct. 16, 2008

In an article about how THE GOONIES changed the cast's lives, it has been revealed that Richard Donner believes the possibility of a sequel that was mooted recently, is basically dead.

"We tried really hard, and Steven (Spielberg) said, 'Let's do it.' We had a lot of young writers submit work, but it just didn't seem to call for it... I'm in the process of trying to get it done as a musical on Broadway. Wouldn't that be great?"

Wow, that comment went downhill real fast. From having Spielberg agree to make a sequel, to having the original converted into a musical. If you were to get a performance artist to act out that comment he would probably start out by being on a plane and getting a blowjob from the stewardess, before kicking open the door and then jumping out with nothing but one of those big black acme weights Wile Coyote used to use.

Extra Tidbit: THE GOONIES was Josh Brolin's big screen debut.

Honestly, while the film never really demanded a sequel, or whatever, most of the actors didn't fade into complete obscurity (Jeff Cohen, Jonathan Ke Quan, and the girl who played Andie aside) that it could be very possible to pull it off if schedules worked out.

But I'm glad official news has come through that it's not happening, so I don't have to worry about whether or not it'll ever come. Still, it does say something about the actors involved that most of them are still around in some way, shape, or form (and in the case of the Walsh brothers, still doing fairly solid work).

And the world breathes a collective sigh of relief.

Besides, there's always Indy 5 for Spielberg to whore out and destroy for another generation.

If anything...I think we should get a really solid special edition of The Goonies on DVD (and of course Blu-Ray)...ya know a really nice new hi-def transfer with some good featurettes and most importantly a re-union of all the goonies now grown up talking about their experience and maybe even what they would think their characters are up to now. I do recall hearing that a Blu-Ray is in the works...so lets hope it offers more than just a new transfer.

First Indy, now Chunk & crew. I think Sloth's been through enough trouble in his life; to get it from behind by Speilberg is just plain inhumane. Thankfully, Donner is against molestation.

Sequels only work when the original cast comes back. And I think Corey Feldman had too much on his plate as it is.

Its probably for the best that they just leave it with one movie. I think a 2nd one would have worked in the mid 90s.

As much as I`d love to see a "Goonies" sequel done right, let`s face it, we`d probably end up with another "Crystal Skull" or "Phantom Menace". It`s probably better to just leave it as a classic.

Thats cool, if they were going to make a sequel they should have done it decades ago, when the kids where still kids. Now it wouldnt work. It wouldnt be the same.

That's fine. The original wrapped up things nicely. Trying to add anything more would be pointless.
