Indie kids gets cast

Strike Back below!
by: Daniel Barna Jul. 1, 2009

Whenever I hear that Hollywood is prepping another useless adaptation, whether it be of a video game, a board game, a mindless seventies cop show and so on, I tend to get depressed about the state of the flick industry. Then a film like THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT comes along and I slowly remove the pistol from my temple and smile. The Lisa Cholodenko-directed indie stars Josh Hutcherson and Mia Wasikowska as a brother and sister who set out to find their same-sex parents' sperm donor, who totally upsets the family dynamic once he enters their lives. Not only is that a fresh concept, but Julianne Moore and Annette Bening are playing the same sex couple and the incredible Mark Ruffalo plays the sperm donor. I dare any one of you to tell me you don't want to see this.

Harsh Times
Daniel I think you wrote a very nice article above, and I am sorry to hear all this negativity towards you. You go and be excited about something and don't listen to these negative nellies. This movie does sound kind of blah to me, but if it is "for you" then you go boy!

ruffalo sucks
looks like he's going to cry in every frame. And Moore is not half as hot as she thinks she is (cover those ugly tit-tays, ma'am!)

This movie has about 5 reasons NOT to see it in your write up. I just gave you two.

I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of Moore, and I'm indifferent toward Benning, but Ruffalo's a pretty cool guy and the two kids are pretty amazing young actors. If nothing else I'm really glad to see them get cast in (what will hopefully be) a cool little drama rather than just more kids' movies.

I can honestly say this intrigues me. But nothing about that cast screams must-see. I'm a big fan of Mark Ruffalo and Annette Bening, and Julianne Moore in a good role can really shine, but all I can say is it's good to hear news about a non-mainstream movie that also sounds pretty timely, if not overtly political.

This could go either way. It could be an R rated psycho drama, or a G rated Disney movie, depending on where they go with it. That's a pretty vague plot synopsis. Like the cast, so I'll stay neutral.
