Did you love PULSE so much that you can't wait for a sequel? Did FEAST leave you with a lot of burning questions? Then you're in luck friend! The Weinstein Co. has announced that they've greenlit 18 (?!) direct-to-DVD films for release in 2009. The vast majority are horror sequels like PULSE 2, CHILDREN OF THE CORN 8, FEAST 2 and MIDNIGHT MAN 2 and 3 (what the hell is MIDNIGHT MAN 1?!). Other non-horror films that are part of the deal include HELL RIDE 2 and a comedy from the writers of MONSTER-IN-LAW. Hilariously enough, the deal also includes sequels to films that haven't even begun filming yet like PIRANHA 3-D and HALLOWEEN 2. (Why not make another sequel to the original HALLOWEEN movies instead of one to a sequel to a Rob Zombie version?). If the projects are expected to be released in 2009, filming will likely begin at the end of this year on the majority of these projects.

Extra Tidbit: Do we really live in a world where there are eight CHILDREN OF THE CORN movies?

Most horror released in theaters nowadays is horrible, so a lot of fans have to go to direct-to-DVD to get their horror movie fix. Those AfterDark, MOH and etc. brand horror is about the only good thing going for the genre right now.

It would be senseless at this point to backtrack and make sequels to the original HALLOWEEN franchise. They were convoluted and messy after part 1, with the exception of H20. I think they should totally go forward with a sequel to Zombie's and get the duo who directed INSIDE as was previously reported. Let's see it!

As for everything else, I couldn't care less.

It's safe to say that ALL of these films will be a waste of money to rent or buy! You SHOULD boycott all of them! Feast 2 is already out.

I agree, they should make sequels to the original Halloween films, not the white-trash remake.

There needs to be a boycott of all this direct-to-DVD crap.

By the way, I love joblo, but even you were guilty of having ads for Anaconda 3, with the Hoff no less.

That's America for ya. People wasting hard earned dollars on funding pathetic, talentless filmmakers and greedy studios whose creative compass only points in the direction of cashflow.

And to sd71: it's amazing what you see when you watch others in a movie rental store. Everyone has their own tastes, but every time I go to rent or buy a movie, and I see someone picking up "Joy Ride 2" or something like that, I just can't help but laugh. And then cry a little bit on the inside because I know that somewhere, studio execs are feeding off this crap.

So thank you America, for your continued support of the endless flow of drivel. You know, because creativity and talent obviously have no place in our society. Which is sad, because there is SO much amazing talent, as tylerj pointed out.

What always baffles me is why people keep paying to buy/rent all this Direct-To-DVD shit. Are they really so fuckin' clueless to not see that they're total fecal matter?

dvd collectors who buy all the movies that come out on a tuesday

im not cheap but i couldnt fathom spending 15-20 bucks every week on one dvd let alone 4 or 5 dvds but i see it

i walked up to get iron man on the tuesday it came out and saw a guy in the section who grabbed every new movie that came out

it gets better.....he was there again yesterday when i scooped the hulk doing the same shit i had to get something else while i was there and i wlked by him again and he was by the 2 for 10 dollar bin

this is just like those crappy spoof movies and wayans brothers flicks the market was there so the studios churned that shit out 1 by 1 until people realised how bad they were and it was always the same shit

this shows no signs of stopping because people just like to say ive got 15,000 dvds even though they watched 300 enjoyed 100 loved 50 and should only have bought 15

I'm at school to be a writer/directer so now I know that if I had to I could make these crappy dtv films if I had too. And maybe I could actually make a good one lol

With the whole "sequel to the original Halloween films" thing. Honestly, where in the HELL could we go after the atrocious (even worse than RZ's "Halloween", you know it's true) "Halloween: Resurrection"? What? Would it be like BIG BROTHER and be a "Michael Myers killing bitches" reality TV show?! Count me out of that shit. "Resurrection" was one of the worst movies I've EVER seen. As crappy as Zombie's remake was, it looks like Oscar material compared to that mess of a "movie". Anyway, this is pretty shitty news regardless. DTV movies always suck (foreign films released DTV non-inclusive). People who say "Wrong Turn 2 was good" are either fucking insane or have incredibly low... LOW standards because that movie has garbage no matter how you cut it.

It's really depressing that there's so many talented screenwriters out there that have trouble selling their original projects while Hollywood keeps dishing out money to lazy, pedestrian crap like this. What's worse is that there's enough people actually buying into stuff like this to warrant it. It's no different than the Disney DVD sequels. C'mon, Weinsteins!
