The original FLETCH was on TV this weekend and I was wondering as I sat watching it why anyone was even trying to remake it. So much of that film is Chevy Chase and his inimitable style of comedy that to try and replicate it would be foolish. That film was lightning in a bottle and even when Chevy Chase tried to recapture it all they got was FLETCH LIVES. Kevin Smith infamously tried to get a film off the ground with Jason Lee and Zack Braff. Smith then left the project and Braff took the project to his "Scrubs" creator Bill Lawrence and he was attached to direct. Now Braff and Lawrence are out and in their place? Joshua Jackson? Joshua F*cking Jackson? I mean the guy was great in THE SKULLS and all but what on Earth makes anyone think this guy can be the new Fletch? He's not even a comedic actor! IESB is also reporting that Steve Pink (ACCEPTED) will write and direct the Pacey-fied version. Wow. Just go rent the new FLETCH Special Edition DVD people and call it a day.

Well, I was worried about seeing a new Fletch movie that doesn't live up to the Chevy Chase version. I'm no longer worried. ...about seeing it, that is. I won't be seeing any movie casting Joshua Jackson as Fletch.

I think Ryan Reynolds could've done a great job; I've been saying that since I first heard about a new Fletch movie. And I think Jason Lee could've done a little...

I think Ryan Reynolds could've done a great job; I've been saying that since I first heard about a new Fletch movie. And I think Jason Lee could've done a little different take, which would've also worked well. I would've spent my money on one of those.

But Joshua Jackson? I've got nothing much against him as an actor, but as Fletch?!! What the hell? No, seriously... What the hell?

How is it that Hollywood finds a way to ruin just about every interesting idea that they touch? I can't tell you how many movies have been completely letting me down lately. I hate to say it, but it almost doesn't pay to get excited about movies anymore.

I have nothing against the guy as an actor, it's just he's always brooding (even Pacey was generally steeped in pathos) and he's kind of a self-righteuos big mouth in interviews (at least in the last couple I saw, most recently on Starz) and that just doesn't feel like Fletch. Fletch is sarcastic and clever but I wouldn't really call him brooding and moody. I thought (before Bale was mentioned)...

I thought (before Bale was mentioned) the possibility of Jackson as a young Batman was interesting, but Fletch...I don't know. I love Fletch the screen character and Fletch on the page, so I hope he pulls it off. If not, well, there's always the "real" Fletch (Chevy in his prime). As for alternatives for a young Fletch, Ryan Reynolds, Jason Lee and even Chris Evans would have gotten little objection from me. But what are you gonna do?

They said the same thing about Robin Williams
Except take this news and switch it around from drama to comedy. At least give him a chance. He would look like maybe Fletch's son.

UUUHHHHHH?
I'd prefer to see Steve Corell, Jim Carrey, Dana Carvey or even Robin Williams. (Could change it up to have Chris Rock or Eddie Griffin)

Joshua Jackson is the extremely poor man's Matt Damon! This movie is going to be a train wreck!!!
What kind of crack are the casting agents smoking?

LOL!
"I mean the guy was great in The Skulls and all..." Funniest thing I've read this morning, even if you didn't mean it to be.
