SWEENEY TODD is set for release in just a few weeks and I still can't decide what to think of it. I wonder if the musical scenes will really take people by surprise when they see it in theaters. I saw a few people look confused when I saw the trailer recently at a theater and Johnny Depp broke out in song. But this really is a musical people - check out this video of Depp recording one of his big songs. But it's another movie from Tim Burton and Johnny Depp and even at their worst (SLEEPY HOLLOW), it's still pretty good. Today we've got some new banners from the film to show off to you. SWEENEY TODD hits theaters in limited release on December 21st.

Extra Tidbit: Because the musical had such little non-sung dialogue it was considered by some to be closer to an opera.

I'm really excited about Sweeny Todd too, but the way they've approached the marketing is just really odd - it's like they're almost ashamed that it's a musical. The trailer is purposefully cut to have hardly any singing in it, and if you didn't know, you'd just think it was a regular film. I can see the film doing badly at the box-office just for this reason: a lot of the audience won't know what to expect and will feel cheated. They should have embraced the musical aspects of the thing head on rather than tried to sidestep them - look at the recent success of Moulin Rouge, Nightmare Before Christmas, Chicago etc etc etc. Hey ho.

I absolutely adore all these posters. I'm so freakin' psyched for this movie, it's not even funny. I need those posters.

While "Sleepy Hollow" is probably one of my three favorite Burton films, I'm gonna have to agree IMO that it's at least equal with Corpse Bride as the lesser effort.

Having said that, I'm not sure if it was necessary for Sampson to share that opinion, since he obviously also likes it.

At the very least, it's leagues ahead of "Planet of the Apes" and "Mars Attacks!"

The title is visible just fine. And Sleepy Hollow IS an aweseome movie. It's my favorite of the pair's (that I have seen) so far.

oh come on now, sampson was just pointing out that if you had to say one of their collaborations was not as good as the others, you would probably say sleepy hollow. by the standards of other movies, of course, sleepy hollow is 4-star, incredible work. but depp and burton have made more significant contributions, that's all. then again, charlie and the chocolate factory is by far their worst collab.

Whoa now, "Sleepy Hollow" is Burton and Depp at their worst? That's a fantastic film (and one of the best Halloween movies out there)!

Sorry, I don't think any projects that Depp and Burton collaborate on are low points. Whatever people consider their 'low points' is still, by far, superior to most of the disappointments that's been thrown at us by other Hollywood productions! I liked Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and I still enjoyed Corpse Bride! Yes, they were mediocre for Burton and Depp, but, not once do you feel they have lost that gothic, dark and outsider theme in their films. I don't think Sweeney will disappoint fans. If anything, should Sweeney Todd not succeed completely, it is because of the audiences mediocre taste to the sugar coated crap that they are used to in Hollywood.

that blood splat makes the title of the film unreadable. maybe there's somewhere out there, who never heard of sweeney todd.
and i wonder why they are downplaying the whole musical angle.

Wait...? Johnny Depp and Tim Burton at their worst??? With Sleepy Hollow?! That was an incredible film, if anything, it was one of their best. I think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Corpse Bride ranked waaaay lower. At least with Sleepy Hollow, Tim Burton could go all out with his dark imagery and gory storytelling.
