Nighy cast in Potter Jul. 1, 2009

Source: The Independent

Bill Nighy was just about the last of the best British actors that hasn't been cast in HARRY POTTER. But that's all about to change. Nighy told The Independent, "I don't think I'm allowed to say it but I'm going to be in the next Harry Potter film." Cause that's how Nighy rolls. He doesn't care if he's not allowed to say it, damnit, he's gonna say it.

Nighy did clam up a little bit though saying, "I won't say which character," adding, "but he's a goodie." The Leaky Cauldron, unbound by the same contractual obligations of Nighy, reveals the actor will be playing Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour. Since I know little to nothing about HARRY POTTER, I did a little research but it would seem hard to talk about his character without getting into spoilers too much.

Filming on HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HOLLOWS, which will be split into two films to end the POTTER franchise, is currently underway.

Extra Tidbit: Nighy played the role of Sam Gamgee in the original BBC radio production of "Lord of the Rings."

I'm happy. But I think Seth Rogen would have been perfect in the part.

Malaguay, you're not alone. I always pictured Brian Cox in the role as well.

Well I'm glad he's going to make it into the series, what a great actor! Once I saw the headline i was kind of hoping he'd play a certain brother with a fetish towards goats, but Scrimgeour will do...

He was my choice from the first time I read Half Blood Prince. Great choice. Now if they would finally cast Charlie and Bill Weasley who should be in HBP but must be in Deathly Hallows. And they have to bring back Fleur. Otherwise the 7 Potter's won't work how it should.

Nighy is awesome. Personally, I always pictured Scrimgeour as being played by Brian Cox, but I certainly won't take anything away from ol' Bill.

Nice. Nighy is a great and versatile actor. He's just about good in anything right now.

Good to hear! Loved him in Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz. Of course that's the first time I saw him in a film. Gotta check out the rest of his work not including the Underworld series.
