Norton fights Pitt 2 Sep. 11, 2007

Although it dropped a deuce at the box office, FIGHT CLUB eventually found a passionate following, and now stars Ed Norton and Brad Pitt are reuniting for more psychotic punching in FIGHT CLUB 2: DO NOT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB 2.

Well, not really, but they are getting together for a steamy political thriller called STATE OF PLAY. The Universal project adapts a British miniseries, and will have the duo at odds -- Norton plays a congressman suspected of killing a mistress, and Pitt is a journalist whose paper is looking into the murder, leading to all kinds of duplicity and romantic complications. Probably not between the two male leads, though. But who knows? FIGHT CLUB was pretty homoerotic, after all.

The movie will be directed by Kevin Macdonald (THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND), and Norton will go right from HULK smashing to the project. Meanwhile, Pitt already got back together with FIGHT CLUB director David Fincher for BENJAMIN BUTTON, due next November (that's 2008 -- sorry Fincher fans).

Extra Tidbit: The original STATE OF PLAY series was full of Brit actors who are now fairly high-profile, including James MacAvoy, Bill Nighy, Shauna Macdonald (THE DESCENT), and John Simm and Philip Glenister of the awesome Brit series LIFE ON MARS.

Must have been the same geniuses who decided it's more cost effective and "creative" to remake Life on Mars...rather than just showing the original (in a form more suiting to it's story) here, that goes for both. LOM is not conducive to a long running US network series, and this mini-series should not be compressed into a Hollywood movie.

BBC needs to create a much stronger presence in the US, they make some of the most hard-hitting dramas, excellent novel adaptations and down right entertaining programing. BBC America shows little of the best, plenty of reality shit, and when brilliance like Spooks hits here, it's bastardized for the showing of commercials.

You can see that it had enough high quality talent in originally that it doesn't need a remake, or is this more of that American xenophobia which means if the accent isn't right it won't be watched?

In case it screwed with some people's minds, Benjamin Button is coming next November, meaning 2008. which sucks by the way. but yeah, it read as if it was coming out in two months.

Yes, they NEED Bill Nighy in there. I've liked that guy in pretty much everything I've ever seen him in, from Still Crazy to Shaun of the Dead, and including Underworld!
