Palahniuk's Rant op Aug. 26, 2008

Source: Palahniuk.net

Apparently, 'Rant' by Chuck Palahniuk (FIGHT CLUB) has been his latest novel to be optioned. There are no details other than that, and that it is already in the early stages of development. When reached for a comment Palahniuk vaulted onto his diamond encrusted Nimbus 2000 and said "ch-ching, mother fuckers!!"

In the novel, Buster "Rant" Casey escapes from his hometown to becomes the leader of an urban demolition derby called Party Crashing, where participants dress their cars with tin-can tails, “Just Married” toothpaste graffiti, and other refuse, then look for designated markings in order to stalk and crash into each other. The book chronicles Casey's short life in a series of oral testimonies by friends he made crashing.

Extra Tidbit: I'm sure you all already know who you want to play Buster, so let's hear it!

Okay honestly, I love Palahniuk, he asked politely to touch my bewb with a fake bloody hand...but Rant was a miss for me. What about Lullaby? Or Survivor? Or Diary? Of course, Invisible Monsters.

I wanna see his short story "Guts" made into a feature. Or maybe it could be an episode of "Masters of Horror"-series.

Invisible Monsters could make for one of the best movies ever made. Survivor would be pretty awesome too. Chuck's later novels don't compare to his early work, sadly. He got tired of his critics complaining that he always writes the same sort of books. But those sorts of books were what was so so great at. As soon as he stopped writing like that, he lost his spark. This includes Rant. Oh well.

You can't hate King - he's the King.
Leave Patterson alone because no one writes well enough to get that many people to read that much.
Dan Brown - take him or leave, but I still find his work entertaining.

Everyone should try Michael Slade for serious horror. Headhunter and Ghoul are his best and blow most of today's writers away.

It's nice to see that this many people still read books! Peace everyone.

It's nice to see I touched the same nerve you did, when you casually discarded Chuck. Neither are Steinbeck, but shouldn't be dismissed either.

Agree with JayYork, Survivor is his best work to date imo. It's definitely on the cards for 2010 I think. Would like to see Ben Foster for that

Hmmm... tough question. I got a pretty good vision of what I thought he looked and acted like from the testimonies in the book but I can't place an actor who would fit it.

It would actually be very difficult I think to convey everything the book does, especially the whole rabies and night timer aspects of it.

'Snuff' is a fucking awesome book. it would make a great (if NC-17) film

Although i haven't read this book. I'm looking forward to it because it's a Chuck [btw, many people know who he is where i live].
I want them to do Survivor, his best novel.

Most overrated author in America? Hardly. Dan Brown, anyone? Tom Clancy? Stephen King? Palahniuk is a modest success by bestseller standards, and he's the park statue that book critics and book snobs take a dump on. Hating Palahniuk is much more popular than liking him.

How is Palahniuk a sell-out? He writes the way he wants to please a pretty small audience. Juvenile, sure. Sell-out? I don't think so. If anything, he sticks to his guns too much, and his evolution as a writer has been slow. But I applaud your knee-jerk contrarianism, dramatic punctuation, and abuse of the word "like".
