Guy Pearce, who has a short but memorable cameo in THE HURT LOCKER, has signed on to star in the upcoming horror flick DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK for Miramax. In the film, Pearce would play a husband (to the previously cast Katie Holmes) and father (to the newly cast Bailee Madison) who discovers his family is sharing their house with a bunch of demons.

Guillermo del Toro co-wrote the script for the film with Matthew Robbins and will produce the film. Troy Nixey, whose praises we have been singing here at JoBlo for years, will make his feature directorial debut on the flick. Filming on DARK is scheduled to take place next month in Australia so del Toro can be nearby while he works on THE HOBBIT.

I know a lot of the press will be snarky comment on Katie Holmes actually acting again, but I'd like to focus on the positives: Guy Pearce getting a leading role. The dude's been criminally underappreciated so it's nice to see him getting his due.

Extra Tidbit: Little Bailee is only 8 years old and already has a fansite. WTF?

Leonard Shelby!
The great thing about Guy is that he is the role he plays. The characters stay etched in mind. Many a time when I see a picture of the guy, my first thought is "This is Leonard Shelby...Hell no! It's Ed Exley...No! No! Whats his name?! Ah Yes, Guy Pearce!"

Kudos bro! keep rocking the scene!

No matter what he's in, I'll always see him as the drag queen in Priscilla Queen of the Desert. :) :P

Seriously though, it's high time Guy got a decent role. A great actor.

Jackie,

You have got to be kidding me with the Pierce for Batman comment. What is he like 5'2?

Sounds like fun.

I don't know why everyone gives Holmes so much shit for marrying Tom Cruise. An actor's personal life has nothing to do with the quality of their art. Holmes has never impressed but she has also never been asked to stretch her talents. She hasn't sucked up the screen either.

Sidenote: If Katie shows her boobs again I'm there. Sigh. I can be so ju...

kdraines hit it right on the head.. Maggie Gyllenhaal still makes me cringe in TDK and I like her. I don't know what the fuck she was trying to do but it failed miserably.

Why the Holmes hate is beyond me.. her uttering "I'm gonna fuck you while I watch you on TV" in Thank You For Smoking made me a fan for life.

I will support Katie Holmes to the bitter end.

johnelitist, let's try to keep the vitriol in check. You basically wished death on Katie Holmes for reasons I cannot even fathom.

I loved her in "Batman Begins" (I thought Maggie Gyllenhaal was a cold ice queen in "The Dark Knight" over whom no one would lose their sanity... and I LIKE Maggie Gyllenhaal) and "Thank You For Smoking."

Damn straight
Justed watched "LA Confidential" again. It was the film where I first discovered both Crowe and Pearce. Pearce is brilliant in that one and he's been excellent in all the films I've seen him in since.
