Predators director?

Yesterday it was announced that Marcus Nispel had officially signed on to direct the CONAN THE BARBARIAN remake for Lionsgate. It was a directing gig for which Neil Marshall (THE DESCENT) had also been in contention. But while Marshall lost one opportunity, it seems he has gained another. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Marshall is in "close talks" to direct the PREDATORS remake/reboot/whatever for Fox. As someone who's been adamantly opposed to the new PREDATORS film, I must say that this news does give me a glimmer of hope. THE DESCENT was obviously genius and even the flawed DOOMSDAY showed signs of directorial bravado. Of course Fox is a place where directorial bravado goes to die but I'm hoping Robert Rodriguez producing the film can help negate any unwanted studio interference. Marshall is currently busy editing his latest film CENTURION with Olga Kurylenko (a film that sadly doesn't have a distribution deal in the US yet).

So do you like the call of Marshall on PREDATORS? If not, why? And who would you have rather seen direct the film?

Extra Tidbit: Will we see a female Predator at any point in the movie?

Anyone who says Doomsday was better than Descent should stop voicing their opinion....

i was hoping Robrt Rodriguez would be directing this thing.... i personally hated Descent but really enjoyed Doomsday... but at least the flick has a director with some bravado, so hopefully it will be good.

You know? IF this movie truly is the spin-off-cum-sequel that it is purporting to be (like a direct sequel to the first film with little or nothing to do with the grossly underrated original sequel), AND if Marshall is directing...

...then this could be one ass-crack-load of awesomeness!

Quit with the bullshit
A remake and a re-boot are the same thing, i miss the days when cinema was original.

I trust RR and that is the only hope I have for this new predator movie. RR is a person who cares about good/cool movies and from what i can tell he wants to make sure his movies are as bad ass as possible. If he can't take care of it - no one can.

We've only seen female predators up until now--haven't you been paying attention to their mouths?

i have to say that predator holding the balloon on the odd bike picture just made my day. im not too incredibly convinced that predators is necessary especially after the avp movies. just like terminator, its about time to give up.

ElderPredator nailed it
Neil Marshall is a great choice for the job, but this all depends on whether or not Fox will let him make a good film or not.

Now if only they had hired Christoph Gans to direct Conan instead of Nispel.

I have high hopes ...
... for Marshall and David Slade. Those directors did prove themselves with something unique (Descent, 30 Days Of night, Hard Candy, Dog Soldiers) while Nispel has some very good remakes in his sleave, but when it comes to something original (Pathfinder) he's not to good.

I think we can stop calling this new Predator flick a reboot and/or remake since an article was posted on here not too long ago stating it is being treated as a direct sequel to the first one.

That said. I do like the choice of director.

Marshall is the man for the job
"The Descent" was awesome. He's waaay better than the likes of Ratner and McG...

Exorcist Remake
AmazSpiderman1:

I read on a Weekly Ketchup on Rotten Tomatoes a while back that there will be a remake to The Exorcist, but it will in fact be an adaptation of the original novel instead of a direct remake of the movie. But, it still shows Hollywood's continual efforts to be unoriginal.

Great!
Neil Marshall directing Predator movie? That's awesome news. I love Descent, and Doomsday had a great promise, and was visually nice looking (but when those punk-freaks came in, it went downhill). Now, if only he would also direct Conan, instead of Nispel...

Am I the only one who feels like Marshall is given too much credit? Descent and Doomsday were both incredibly average to me. Stuff I see in straight to DVD releases.

Oh well. Never liked a movie yet with the Predator yet, why start now?

Will only see this shit if its a sequel.
Good director, I suppose, but I could care less at this point. Unless this movie is a sequel, you can count me out. Infact we should boycott even spreading news of future remakes, otherwise they'll never stop. The Exorcist is next, I'm guessing.

Marshall is an awesome director and his work on both Dog Soldiers and Doomsday proves he can do action and horror just like the first Predator movie. i'm all in for this idea, lets hope hes given the shot.

100% approval...
I believe Marshall could do an incredible job as he's already proven himself as both a story teller and a hardcore horror nut.

In the end though, it all comes down to how much Fox is going to f#ck with the film.

Marshall Will Work
His work on "Dog Soldiers" proves he could do a solid job with a "Predator" film. And anyone is better than PWS Anderson - in film, or life in general.
