Predators gets writer

I've gone on record as saying the Robert Rodriguez produced sequel PREDATORS is one sequel/reboot I could really do without. Normally I pay these type of movies no mind as I'll always have the original to fall back on. But something about PREDATORS just rubs me the wrong way and I think it has something to do with the AVP franchise. I mean haven't we tarnished the poor Predator enough?

As was previously announced, Rodriguez will only be producing PREDATORS and up until now there was no other creative talent announced. But today Bloody Disgusting has learned that the film has found a writer in Alex Litvak. While he doesn't have much to go by on his resume, Litvak penned the spec script MEDIEVAL that has McG attached to direct.

So am I the only one really bothered by a new Predator movie? I suppose I should just get over it. If they're making a new NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET without Robert Englund, I can probably survive another sucky PREDATOR film.

Not entirely true
Actually Rodriguez just reiterated in an interview last week that he *won't* just be producing it, he'll be co-directing it. He also said that he will be using the old Predator 3 script that Ayestrain's talking about as a blueprint for the new movie.

Both Aliens and Predators...
... just need a good movie. Good directors, good script.

I've said before, Alien 3 & 4, weren't that bad, just flawed.
And I actually liked much of Predator 2 (though it's been perhaps 20 years since I've seen it), and even thought the first AvP movie had it's moments, though again it was flawed.

Perhaps part of the trouble is that the creatures are too well known now. No mystery in them anymore. So maybe that's what's needed. Show a new angle on them. Deepen their mythology.

I'm game. If any can do this film Rodriguez can. It'll be over the top insane fun!

I say do it grind house style!

Remember that Rodriguez's name was being thrown around with a Predator 3 film some years ago. And he wanted to set it on the Predator's home planet.

Sounded like it had potential back then. I'll give it a chance. If it sucks, we may never see anymore Predator films.

Just the fact that they're remaking (or rebooting, or re-imagining, or re-whatevering) the franchise is bad enough, but consider the name: "Predators." With an "S" on the end. That suggests multiple aliens, presumably against one or more humans. The whole reason that the Predator was so bad-ass is that he could take on Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, AND Shane Black, and it was a pretty even match. To have more than one running around would only lessen their credibility.

Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions, and "Predators" is only a working title, and there'll just be one alien again. But even if that were the case, remember: it's being made by Fox, which means the chances of it NOT being a PG-13 CGI cheese-fest are pretty damn slim.

I don't see the big problem. It's not like they are straight-out remaking the first film. Plus, Robert Rodriguez's behind it, and as long as Fox lets HIM DO HIS FUCKING THING, it should be interesting. Maybe it's the inner child in me that's been wishing for an actual Predator sequel installment (AVP series never counted) but I'm pretty excited about it.

I'm not in love with the Predator, but I think it's a pretty bad-ass character. Having said all that, judging that most found the first sequel underwhelming, and the AVP movies down-right horrid, I'm of a mind that there is no future Predator movies worth wasting my time on. When an invisible hunter kills a bunch of beefcake action figures, where do you go from there? At least the Alien worked its way UP to fighting beefcake action figures.

Fine by me
I don't see what the problem would be? I mean, the AvP flicks were widely derided but they were probably better than the last two Alien installments (seriously, remember how bad they really were?) The fact that they were released at a time pre online fanboy has somewhat preserved their legacy.

I like Predator as much as the next red blooded pop corn loving guy but I don't put it...

I like Predator as much as the next red blooded pop corn loving guy but I don't put it in the same league as the Alien franchise which has so much more material both movie and comic to impress.

I think Rodriguez could do an alright job of it, but he's gonna find it hard to do something original. What's left to hunt? Playboy bunnies?

Normally I'd be against this idea, but freakin' Rodriguez, man! This is going to be one hell of a fun flick.

I'll wait and see if it's going to be worth seeing. Being that Rodriguez is behind, it may be good, but I'm just tired of remakes. You know sometime here soon some studio exec going to say that it's time to remake Citizen Cane or Gone With The Wind.

AVP
If they had never made AVP, no one would have a problem with restarting the Predator franchise. I don't believe that when a bad movie is made in a series, everyone should just quit. Look at Batman.

there's no reason to make this movie other than the hope that it will make money.

movies made for the sake of profit, usually aren't that great. there are some exceptions tho....but not a lot

I really am worried about what future generations will think about the franchise, WTF is fox doing?? seriously.
The first flick is a bone afide ass kicking classic. leave it alone!

What's wrong with Reboots/Remakes?
I don't get this hatred people have towards reboots. Just because they are making the movie again doesn't mean the original is deleted or destroyed. You still have your copy of the version you always liked.
Robert Rodriguez sounds like a very good choice to do a predator movie.

I suppose I can get on board with this. It's not like I'm going to NOT go see it when the release date gets closer. I just hope it's not a quickly thrown together mess like AVP and AVP:R.
