A lot of people hate Uwe Boll as a filmmaker, right? They think DUNGEON SIEGE and BLOODRAYNE are wastes of celluloid. I personally think that Boll is an original cinematic voice with uncompromising visions of filmic genius. That’s why a recent interview between Boll and FEARnet disturbs me. They asked him if he was aware that a petition has been signed online by 18,000 people asking him to stop making movies. Boll answered that he was aware, but that it wasn’t enough to “convince” him. However, Boll said that one million signatures would be able to convince him, and that terrifies me. The fact that 982,000 more signatures can put my personal guru (and one of the best filmmakers of all time) out of business, terrifies me. This is me, to all of you, as you friend: DON’T SIGN THE PETITION! LET UWE BOLL CONTINUE TO MAKE BRILLIANT FILMS! I’M BEING SARCASTIC! If interested, you can find said petition HERE.

I love the fact that it is over 200,000 votes to never make another film. Too bad it probably won't make it and the fact that "His Crapiness" Dr. Uwe (pronounced EWWWW!!) will continue to make them anyway.

I won't sign, who cares if he keeps pumping out the crap. I keep watching his films when they reach DVD, I don't know why. It's like driving by a car wreck, and not being able to help yourself and having to look.

What I'm completely amazed by is how Uwe has so little knowledge or care about how a film actually goes together after doing so many of them. They don't seem to get any better. He gets good actors, but they give life-time worse performances each time out. The editing is all over the place, you can't tell what the hell is going on half the time. The effects are laughable. I wish they were in the so-bad-they're-good category, but they're so technically inept, that you can't enjoy them on that level.

I just reviewed Nightmare City (click WWW), and that is a masterpiece in terms of so-bad-its-goodness; Uwe should aspire to such heights.

Even if you hate his movies - you have to give him credit: the vitriolic hate he engenders has brought the movie fan community closer. Let him keep pumping out garbage, and he'll have an amazing body of work we can look back and take a collective dump upon. he's doing his way, and as much as I think I could do a better job, directing movies seems difficult, and who knows. That might actually be the source of the venom - jealousy that he keeps getting paid to crank out shit that we feel we could do (and get his paycheck).

The AV Club has a pretty good interview with him. I think the scariest thing is that he really is a pretty smart guy, and he may actually someday transcend this genre garbage, and make a good film. Or, maybe not.

I saw the sequel to Bloodrayne on the weekend and it wasn't really bad... I was quite surprised. I think he is learning more and more with every movie. Can't wait to see Postal.
