Spidey 4 in 2010? May. 23, 2008

Source: IESB.net

SPIDER-MAN, Tobey Maguire The folks at the IESB recently got some scoopage about SPIDER-MAN 4 from Marvel Vice Chairman Peter Cuneo. He's of the belief that considering Sony has renewed their rights to the character, they'd likely wanna move on the sequel as soon as possible with a release around 2010 or so. Here's what he had to say: "As far as Spider-man 4, it's really up to Sony and it up to them, most likely scenario is 2010 or 2011 but we can't speak for them and I think that we don't know. They have given us their re-up payment for that film so you know they're going to make it within a reasonable timeframe. Sony may be looking at some issues with the cast and so on, I think they have to make some decisions." Sony's already commissioned ZODIAC scribe James Vanderbilt to bang out a script and his idea apparently explores a two-film arc, leading to speculation that SPIDER-MAN 4 and 5 will be filmed back-to-back, but this is all contingent on whether Sony can get Sam Raimi and the original cast back on board and if not, how fast they can get replacements. Thoughts?

Extra Tidbit: Any villains in particular anybody would like to see in SPIDER-MAN 4?

Going ahead now with a whole new cast sounds like money grubbing and would basically leave me at home. If they all return...with a better film than 3 (yuck) then I will be in line.

This sequel can go either way. It can be just as good, if not better, than the first two. Or it can fall into 3S (sh***y sequel syndrome). To avoid the latter, I would concentrate on one main story, maybe reference some of the most interesting stories that made Spidey who he is today. I'd stay away from involving too many villians (see Spidey 3) which thins out the quality of the story.

As far as villians: If we bring back Venom, ditch Topher Grace and get someone big (in body type) to play Eddie Brock. Stick with him as the main villian and use one of the many Spidey vs Venom storylines in the comics.

I personally would like to see The Lizard. The story of Dr. Connors would be cool on screen and the Lizard is a formidable foe for Spidey to battle.

Better yet, they should adapt Kraven's Last Hunt to the big screen. This is probably my favorite of all Spidey tales that should be a must have in any SpiderMan library.

as far as who should be giving nightmares to spidey...i think venom should definitely be there....with a much bigger role to play...i think 4 should be entirely venom plotting and taking revenge on spidey for what he did to him in 3....that way we get to see some super venom action...and also start exploring the origins of rhino....which can setup spidey 5....spidey 5 almost entirely about spidey taking on venom and rhino...at the end of which....they can introduce....(i think its gonna be awesom!!!)....wolverine! that should be set for spidey 6!!!

hmmm....this could potentially be bigger than the first triglogy if done right....
i think most film studios should take a cur from the new batman series and iron man on how to make comic book adaptations....iron man isnt a dark character...thus the bright but morally correct film with a strong undercurrent of superhero ethics. batman is essentially a troubled man with a traumatic past....thus the treatment for the new films....that kind of approach should be taken to the new spidey series...not generalize the character to try n make everyone happy and whore the concept of the comic book. they should stick true to the ethos of the comic and work from that....rather than the other way around. i mean...look what they did to fantastic four 1 and superman returns....
p.s i, for one, liked the first hulk. i thought it captured the agony and pain of the character perfectly...

Spidey 3 sucked prehistoric elephant balls, but that doesn't mean I'm not eager to see more Spider-Man flicks. As for villains, if the movie's gonna be a two-story arc, one should have Venom all the way and hint Carnage at the cliffhanger end and in part 5 we'll have both Venom AND Carnage. Lizard would be a good addition, too. I say Venom because although I know he got blown to a billion pieces, it's a comic flick and they could bring Brock back and do the character some justice. He's like Joker to Batman. They're arch enemies...and Venom got a mere 10 minutes total in Spidey 3. F**k Sam Raimi, send tanks after him, and get someone else to direct this. He did great for 1 and 2, but sincerely assfu*ked 3. Venom needs to return with a proper suit, no yellow claws, and a better sounding voice. Topher needs to work out or something...do whatever...just bulk up way more than his scrawny self!

its very true; 'Cigarette Burn' made a great point about the beginning of the film. It wouldve been fucking amazing, it opens, shot of the earth, space shuttle in peril, screams, crashes into new york city, spiderman goes to check it out, symbiote gets on him...

WHAT THE FUCK IS SO HARD ABOUT THAT???

Then Harry's character would still be perfectly fine, and then it wouldve made sandman secondary, if the studio REALLY wanted venom, they shouldve given Raimi an extension and time to rewrite parts of the script, because seriously...it was a joke

As a fan of film and film history it was ridiculous, as a comic fan it was ridiculous, as a person who enjoys film in general it was a joke, i can watch it and like the fights... even though the CGI was terrible, and u cant debate that

All in all, i want this done right, i appreciate what Raimi did for 1 and 2, but we all know that he has no more to deliver to this ever-growing franchise

I was really disappointed with how they brought venom into the last movie. I wanted something dark and dramatic..he just kind of slipped into it and was only around for 5 minutes. The only part that got me excited was when he was being surrounded by noise and the suit began to seperate from him. I want venom to come back with a vengeance, and let the carnage storyline begin! If they do re-cast Peter Parker they could do a lot worse than casting Jim Sturgess in the role. He's about to play Parker in the SPIDER-MAN musical on Broadway (still can't believe they actually made a musical based on SPIDER-MAN... with lyrics by fucking Bono!).

I actually hope they re-launch the franchise with new actors and a new production team (including director).

I want my SPIDER-MAN to be darker.

The last film should have opened with a space shuttle crashing to Earth, and Spidey saving the day (but not before a certain parasite latches on to him). Would have made an amazing action scene to start the film, and would perfectly set up the villain (instead of a meteor happening to land RIGHT NEXT TO THE ONE SUPERHERO IN NEW YORK CITY).

I too would love to see the Lizard in action but I'm luke warm to the idea of another Spider-Man so soon. I'd prefer to wait about 5 years and enjoy whatever else Marvel Films wants to put out before getting back into a Spidey state of mind. I think it would allow for fresh faces to emerge for the leads and separate itself from the current franchise so as not to suffer from what the new Hulk film does (is it a sequel?/Is it a reboot?). I think Sam Raimi did a superb job on the 3 he directed (epecially 2) but next time around I'd prefer a different vision of the character.

just to respond to someone's comment, well we know eddie brock died cuz if u look in the explosion he turns into a skeleton before totally incinerating.

But is it just me, or does anyone else thinks this sounds like this guy is trying NOT to say that they are working on recasting, either his first language isnt english or he was getting too nervous trying to be too careful choosing his words.

They dont need a "Reboot", that implies redoing the origin, Batman begins was a reboot. They just need a new direction. The movie needs to take place years after, not anything crazy like 10, but as opposed to 1 year between films, make it 3-5.

But, it needs to b done like batman forever (NO NOT THE STYLE BUT THE SAME PREMISE; DIFFERENT ACTORS, SAME CONTINUITY, VERY LOOSE SEQUEL)
That way the franchise basically hits the refresh button, because i kno im not the only one who wants to see the same set of the most uninterested actors ive ever seen/heard. I watched the film the other day for shits, and no one cared, kirsten dunst (honest to god) looked drunk or sounded as if she had a hang over or 10 too many smokes. It just fell apart and i KNOW im not the only one who noticed this. It made money but thats cuz everyone wanted to see it considering it was advertised as if it was a good movie. i can say a healthy 9/10 were and still are completely unhappy with that film...

Help me out here guys....

2. They introduce the Scorpion and have him join with the symbiote to create the next Venom (as per the comic books)...with the Lizard being the second "villain".

As long as Carnage is in it and is done right, I'd see it. But purely to see that badass roam free.

Let's get Favreau to do this with a IronMan join film. Maybe Tony Stark could finally have Peter repair his damn appartment door...oh and give some money to MJ so she stops singing! ;-)

At the end, do we REALLY know if Venom/Eddie Brock was KILLED when the bomb went off in the circle of metal pipes? Nope: we get a big explosion and Venom vanished.

He could return. I totally think he could.

But as for NEW characters...I think The Lizard is all set to go, and perhaps Hobgoblin (rubber suit, cape, hood, and all) could be introduced.
