The X-Files plot? Apr. 18, 2008

I spent a full day on the set of the X-FILES sequel and still didn't come away with a full grasp on the plot of the film. Fox and the producers have done an amazing job at keeping it secret but now, courtesy of those blasted book publishers, the plot may have leaked out. A source claims to have copied the blurb from the back of the upcoming X-FILES novelization that describes the film as such (obvious SPOILERS lie ahead):

REDACTED.

Keep in mind it's unclear how legit this is. But it seems to jive somewhat with what I saw on set and what we saw in the teaser trailer. I've put out a few feelers to trustworthy sources but so far no confirmation yet. Stay tuned!...

UPDATE - I heard word from an independent source who confirmed the news and gave me a full print out of the book's retail information including the book's ISBN number (that I was able to confirm was correct)...

UPDATE 2 - Hey! Where'd my plot description go? It just up and vanished. Now there's an X-File for ya... Since the plot description was removed at the request of FOX, I'll just tell you it was a comedy of errors that involved a double-dutch jumproping competition. You should see Mulder do a mule kick!!

It seems awfully convenient that the plot points hit the street the same day of the New York Comicon!
Just another ploy in the campaign of miscommunication... from Chris Carter

Actually, Greenaway, that is correct as written. The verb ("is") should agree with the subject ("the best team for the job"). The nouns in the predicate ("ex-agents Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully") have no bearing on the verb. "The Copyeditor's Handbook" (U of California P, 2006) gives this example on page 340: "The only sign of Christmas was the stockings on the mantel."

Of course "team" is a collective noun, but the members of the team are acting as a group, so the noun should be treated as singular (at least in North America, where I presume this blurb originated).

...Unless you were pointing out another error and I misunderstood?

That doesn't even remotely read like a cover blurb.

Sounds like a good plot to me. As for all the unanswer questions, they will still remain unanswered but at the same time fill in the blanks. I think I read that somewhere so him being on the run will be solved

The series finale left alot of unanswered questions (which annoyed me, particularly after a very weak ninth season.) I hope they don't just ignore the fact that Mulder is on the run...

"And the best team for the job is [sic] ex-agents Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully, who have no desire to revisit their dark past."

One would think that the publication house for the novelization would have good enough proof-readers. Not that this is proof of fabrication, it just nettles me and does make the alarm bells ring. Then again, I might trust people and their use of the English language too much.

Whether this is correct or not, it has a Carterian savour, again proof of nothing at all. But as Mike does indeed think this is, to an extent, in agreement with what he has seen, I am willing to go along with this.
