TRON Recently the internets have been up in a tizzy about the fact that the upcoming TRON sequel, which apparently has been renamed from the previous TR2N, is apparently going to be the most expensive movie ever made. At least if the "Vancouver Sun" is to be believed (the film is currently in production in Vancouver). And when has the "Vancouver Sun" been anything but right about the budget of tentpole Hollywood movies? Towards the end of this article about the booming movie industry in Vancouver, they drop this little nugget: "Vancouver post-production units are salivating at the prospects presented by the Disney remake of Tron, which carries a whopping $300 million budget and opportunities aplenty for effects and digital polish." Whoa, what's Disney trying to do here? Out-groundbreak James Cameron?

Source: Vancouver Sun

Extra Tidbit: Even though "Tron" is a command in BASIC meaning "Trace On", original TRON director got the title from "Electronic".

I agree with Darin. they should stick to the original graphics with the advance technology we have to day. they will make it have the same feel along with a new spin of effects that will bring back memories for those old folk fans and new ones for the (as doctor coxs says) Newbies.

THEY SHOULD...
They should save money and shoot it with the same graphics the original one had. The fanboys will rave that it stayed true to the original and the producers make out like fat cats.

hmmm
This just makes me think they are relying HEAVELY on technology, instead of cool story and characters etc. Sounds like one big giant eye candy feast with big name actors who want lots of dough.

The original TRON looks pretty dated now of course, but it was enjoyable on the big screen "back in the day".

Is that 300 million Canadian dollars? That's like, what, $149.95 US?

Joking, I'm joking of course.

You can always make people care if you have the right people behind the project.

Anyway, I do have to say that I hope Disney sticks a subtitle to the title, instead of just calling it 'Tron'. It's not a remake, it's a sequel so..why not just call it Tron 2: Tron Harder.

That's kind of outrageous.

Although I have faith that they'll make something decent, I have a hard time convincing myself that this will make bank unless it turns out to be something really special.

And it's Tron.
