This is story is a couple of days old, but it's a pretty interesting one, particularly since it's my life's ambition to write an AVP movie. The story basically goes that Fox had a genuine shot at a Sigourney Weaver starring, Ridley Scott directed sequel to ALIEN: RESURRECTION. And of course they jumped at it because it was a no brainer. Nope, just kidding, that of course never happened:

“The last time [Ridley and I] saw each other we talked about it. The character is still interesting [and] I’d love to work with Ridley again... But Fox has effectively killed it because of ‘Alien vs. Predator.’ What else can you do with the creature? You can take the situation, you can go back to where they came from... To play someone who ages a couple hundred years was fascinating... [But] let [Ripley] rest.”

So there you go. ALIEN VS. PREDATOR officially killed Ripley, killed her dead. I guess the consolation is that we did get that sick BAD BOYS type scene where Sanaa Lathan and the Predator run through the polar ice caps though*.

*Not actually any consolation.

Source: MTV

Extra Tidbit: Please, share your respects for the franchise that Ridley, Sigourney, James Cameron, and many others helped build.

It's over...
Yea, it sucks, but she's right : AVP did kinda take the mystique from the series. Let Ripley rest. She died and was resurrected for crissakes, what the hell else can you do with that character?

It's over and done with, now we AND FOX have to live with it. But in all honesty, despite how bad the 1st AVP was, I actually enjoyed AVP:R. I mean, I wish it was more epic in scale in terms of director, actors, plot, fx, etc., but for what it was it was descent. I'll give Fox some points for that. But as far as ALIEN movies as a standalone franchise, I don't think it would work anymore.

I think it can come back, instead of making another god awful AvP movie finishing off the Alien saga good and proper with Scott and Weaver is a nice way to salvage the franchise. Also a third Predator movie isn't a bad idea, I don't think this is the end for Ripley she still has one last blast

Thinking about what could've been with these movies after Aliens just makes me angry...not that Alien 3 was really bad or anything, but it started a downhill slide for every future entry into the series. The epic earth hive idea could've been utilized for a final showdown and epic conclusion to the trilogy...and of course they should've kept Hicks and Newt alive for that possibility as well......

The epic earth hive idea could've been utilized for a final showdown and epic conclusion to the trilogy...and of course they should've kept Hicks and Newt alive for that possibility as well...after that, if Fox was to do one more flick based on the origin of the aliens, or maybe make the earth hive flick a two-parter with that being it's conclusion, I would welcome the idea of Avp as long as it followed some of the comics and involved marines in space...they've pretty much killed that idea, but the two parter earth-hive /alien origin epic could've lead to an awesome AVP story line worth making. Too bad..unless they just forget about alien 3 and re-imagine the whole thing...come to think of it...I'm usually against re-imaginings because so many seem unjustified, but given the condition of this franchise it might work...

However, Ripley gets thrown underground during the raid and attempts to get out only to blow herself up and the aliens; as she is being attacked by hordes of aliens. its not in sync with the established stories of 1-3 but I thought itd be a great idea. guess why they call it a dream.

Rest in peace, Ripley. That is until the studio decides you should be "re-imagined" in ten years. Ha.

It should have ended with Alien 3 anyway. Resurrection is dreadful, and both AVP movies are unwatchable. Maybe if they followed the storyline from the comics they would have been good. But that's still a BIG maybe.

Yea, old news. James Cameron told in a interview with AICN (2-3 years old stuff) that he went to pitch the idea for Alien 5 to Fox. Written by Cameron, directed by Scott, starring Weaver.

Rothman said "No." because they "Had a good script for AVP." Yeah right. Fucking Tom Rothman. Fucking Fox.

Dumb @$$ suits ruined the franchise.

I don't know how many'll remember this but, after 'Aliens', it was planned to do a third movie, with Hicks as the lead, hunting an alien through a 'Blade Runner' style colony of earth separatists. Then a fourth movie, with a whole $#!+ load of aliens invading earth itself.

But the suits decided that was all too expensive, so they did 'Alien 3' on the cheap (with a script that was basically just a rehash of the original: single alien, unarmed humans, confined environment) and the rest, lamentably, is history.

And killing Newt in 3 was simply unforgivable; it invalidated the entire final act of 'Aliens'. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Studio heads shouldn't be in the directors chair
Thanks to Ridley and Scott making awesome films, and to Joss Whedon for trying. Anyone interested, go check out the Alien 3 screenplay that David Twohy wrote that was never used. It's interesting, has the basis for the Alien 3 that was actually made, and you see where Riddick was really born.

Anyway, Bad FOX, Bad!

It should have stopped at Aliens. No Cameron+No Ridley=Shitty movie. Why in God's name would you kill off the three people (in the first five minutes of the damn movie) Ripley spent the entire previous movie saving?

Forgive me for implementing a firefly quote, but you Can't Stop the Signal.

eventually they will do another aliens and remake AVP like what warner is doing with batman. Sooner or later, we will get our AVP thats a direct copy of the 1st comic book.

PS. I actually liked AVPR compared to the 1st one. what now. lol

I like the way Ripley's character ended in Alien 3. AR was ok but the AVP films are not that bad. What else can we expect from this genre?? Fox does need to put in more money but overall both AVP flicks were ok. At least we don't have to see Ripley over and over again complaining.

Fox killed the Alien franchise longgg before AVP did.
The AVP movies might suck, but I still think Alien Resurrection was just as terrible if not worse. The movie made very little sense, and was just a cash cow so we could see another Alien flick.

It should of stopped at Alien 3. It might be flawed, but it still makes for a damn good trilogy. Resurrection has no business even being included the franchise.

They talked to Fox about it but they were told by the heads (include Rothman in there) that the studio's priority was the first AvP and only after that they'd study the possibility of making a new Alien movie. Cameron and Scott obviously told them that if AvP got made, they were out, as they felt it'd cheapen the franchise. Guess what happened. On top of that, on a recent interview Rothman had the balls to state that he was still open to listening to Scott's and Cameron's ideas. Hilarious.

Thanks to the AVP films...
... people who have never seen the originals won't even bother seeing them because they expect the same crapiness of the Alien vs. Predator matchups. Thanks alot Fox!

I tried talking several of my friends into watching 'Predator' and 'Aliens' to no avail. One of my buds said, "I'm not gonna waste anymore time watching that shit. If the new ones suck, how are the old ones supposed...

The new films haven't made the fanbase larger, instead they've just successfully turned away their core fans.

They need to show what happens after they landed on earth in the last Aliens movie. In fact that is where alien vs predator should have started with the Predators coming to earth to liberate Earth from the xenomorphs.

Let's face it, we all know that in a few years when the catastrophe of AVP has been laid to rest Fox will re-ressurect the Alien franchise but by then, more than likely without Sigourney.
