I can look it up as well, but my point was that the amount of money it made was good. Ie a lot people went to see it. I know it wasnt PROFITABLE, but that wasnt really my point. People went and hated it, as some did with TF2...what i meant was that making money isnt the only criteria for a successful movie.

Films are remembered for everything they encompass, good story, effects, characters etc. Bay’s movies, although for the most part are profitable, they are not anything but fluff. Good fluff is still fluff (even if I don’t think its good).

We remember characters and names because they mean something. John Connor, Sarah Connor, even Kyle Reese…heck how about Hudson and hicks from aliens. I haven’t watched aliens in years and years (even though I own it) but I remember all the names from that film…they were characters. I own transformer toys and the original cartoons and I still don’t remember any of the robots from bay's transformers! They even used devastator in part one and everyone seems to have forgotten that.

What was Sean Connerys name in the rock? What made us remember that film. It was a good action movie, passable, but nothing to die over. It aint no Road Warrior.

transformers part one had a mountain dew machine that was a transformer. how can anyone think that was great?

People bitch about the pointless humor in TF2, but everyone of his movies has humor in it, listen to any of the his commentaries he likes silly humor even if others dont get it. Heres proof:

Bad Boys - Mike calling Marcus a bitch when they are driving was ad libbed by Smith, same with Tea Leoni's character asking if Marcus was gay, Bay told her to ad mib the line.

Armageddon - Pretty much Steve Buscemi's character is the comic relief.

Bad Boys 2 - the scene in the electronics store, the scene where marcus accidently ingests the X, marcus getting sick at the funeral home, etc etc

The Island - again the Steve Buscemi character, not much humor

Transformers - Bumblebee "peeing" on Simmons, Anthony Andersons character, the ding dong scene & Frenzy saying oh shit & sam's mother .

Transformers 2 - Sams roommate, Simmons mentioning devestators scrotum, sam's mom high from the brownies, the twins & bumblebee crying & spewing on the fembot.

Ya I purposefully left out Pearl Harbor cuz I dont remember that movie too much, but people seriously need to lighten up on Bay. There are far worse films than TF2

The man is a hard worker, and Transformers 2 is the only movie i did not like from him yet. But Armageddon, The Rock, and Bad Boys are just fun.

Some directors have a particular style: Burton, Shaymalan, Tarantino, etc. and people see those movies based on that. If that stlye doesn't suit the viewer, than they aren't going to like their work. That led to Chris nolan making batman begins, and then dark knight. but if money was the only factor, then we would not have batman begins or dark knight and would have been left with batman and robin being the last of the bat-films. Bay's movies can be entertaining at times, but when it comes down to it, they wont stay with you. I cannot quote any lines from any of his movies or cant remember any specific scenes that were amazing. explosions are fine, but when there is no meaning behind them, then what's the point. T2 had tons of explosions, and we remember the lines and it was a "popcorn" movie too! Bay has the potential to be really great. But he just cant seem to pull it off. Transformers could have been an amazing spectacle, a serious action film with suspense..but no, there just has to be stupid comedy for no reason. you wanna laugh, go watch a stupid/funny comedy like hangover or something. I dont wanna see that sort of thing in transformers.

All I can do is ask you to do a little research and look up the reviews of the movie by actual veterans, they sure as hell weren't entertained. That's why I call the movie an insult.

He's not your average action director. Maybe he used to be, cuz his first movies were really character based, but now they're there to serve the action.

"The Rock" is still one of my favorite action movies of the 1990s, mostly because of the great chemistry between the actors. Nic Cage needs to go back to playing awkward action stars.

I think his career shift really occurred around the time of Bad Boys 2, where the action was so overkill that the story kinda suffered.

Bay is, above all, an acquired taste. And he doesn't make masterpieces. But if he can be controlled, he can turn in something really good. The first half of "The Island" was awesome. In fact, so was the second half, but it felt like it came from another movie.

And that tidbit is one of the most insane comparisons I've ever seen posed. I'd rather be a hunky director who turns out less-than-stellar work than an insecure German who couldn't make it as an artist, and couldn't see when his number was up. Although the rise to power must've been one helluva rush for that guy.

Michael Bay delivers what you want during the summer: hot chicks and explosions. The Rock and Bad Boys are two of the best action flicks from the 90's while The Island is unfairly criticized. It's not a great flick, but its no doubt interesting.

Bay is one of my all time favorite directors! I have LOVEd every movie he has made, with Armageddon and The Rock being in my top 10 flicks. Dude makes killer action flicks, and if people have problems with the plot, i dont know what to tell you, the plot is there! People will bash him simply because of Pearl Harbor! Dude makes awesome flicks, with super awesome scores

Is JoBlo turning into AICN? Seems like it with all the Bay hate. We have already seen the ridiculous 2/10 review, the polls and pointless articles bashing the film even after its release. I enjoyed the movie and most of Bays films, I admit they arenot high art and I love great films as well. And Transformers 2 is no way near as bad as Terminator Salvation or Wolverine!

When you have a film such as this, something that demonizes one side and attempts to show the heroic US it's going to cause an emotional response, particularly in people who studied the history and lived through it, both Japanese and American. What Bay did was get just about every single fact about the attack wrong. It was almost an insult. He condensed the entire event down to a one sentence plot synopsis "Japan sends planes to blow American shit up, while two men love the same woman." and CGI'd the hell out of it. My favourite lines, Josh Hartnett upon witnessing the attack, "World War II just started." and “I think it’s time for us Americans to step in and save the world!”

America! Fuck Yeah!

the only Bay film i've ever really flat out enjoyed was The Rock. Sean Connery's pretty bad ass in that film and Cage was still cool back then. Cage was decent in Con Air. Con Air's OK for some mindless violent fun and Malkovich is pretty bad ass in that too.

everything else he's done i could do without. unless i'm suddenly in the mood for 2 hours of random exploding things.

I agree with philalva77. You've got to give it to Bay. He knows how to entertain people with his action sequences. And yeah, The Island is actually good if you watch it a couple of times. It's the closest thing that Bay can combine science-fiction into action movie. I'm glad that he directed Transformers. Admit it: everybody likes robot-bashing good times.

fuck da haters Michael Bay makes movies for serious movie fans who want an escape, popcorn action flicks, the only movie of his i dont care for is Pearl Harbor, and yes The Island grew on me after multiple viewings, its a fascinating flick. Plus hes way better than Ratner McG & Uwe Boll. I know one day he will win an Oscar no joke.

Interesting that Ron Howard's first 7 films are rated lower than Bay's. That's "wtf" worthy... though Howard's first 7 are all old 60's through 80's pieces of crap that no one's probably heard of or even seen so...
