Yet more Joker Nov. 29, 2007

Even though half of all the web domains registered in the last month are viral sites for THE DARK KNIGHT, there are still several more months of hype to bludgeon Bat-fans before the movie actually hits theaters. And people can't get enough of the new Clown Prince of Crime!

Following on the checker-socked heels of this week's Empire cover is a new snapshot of everyone's favorite pasty-faced psycho, courtesy of Wizard magazine (who somehow also has the "first look" at TRANSFORMERS 2). Thanks to 'Cole R.' for the heads up!

Joker

Extra Tidbit: Before the sequel was even officially announced, actors rumored to play Joker included Steve Carell, Crispin Glover, Lachy Hulme (???), Paul Bettany, Adrien Brody and Johnny Depp.

I have to say, I was freaking out with excitement from teh Empire cover but this one...kind of lets me down. Its allright but he just doesnt look menacing in this pic. Like most people below me, I can't wait to see some actual trailer with plenty of him in it! Enough with these stills and websites. The viral thing is really cool most of the time, especially with TDK, but I wish they would stop teasing us! And we still have almost 8 months left!

IAMJack600,

I have tons of confidence in Chris Nolan. He doesn't have a lot of movies that he has done, but almost everything he has done has been really good or great.

There are certain directors I don't trust in the comic world anymore. Raimi, Singer, Ratner(why was ever involved).

I think in the end it will great, and we will all really appreciate his adaptation of these iconic characters. I really can't wait to see him do Two-Face though. If this is how the Joker looks, just think how messed up Two-Face will look.

In just about all the pix I've seen of the Joker so far, he's just kind of half-assed scowling. So, because his cheeks are cut, is that supposed to represent the smile? I may be freaking out over nothing, but I just don't see this being what anyone expects, and for that people are going to bitch. The Empire cover is badass, this Wizard shot, not so much. Can't wait until we see some actual footage, any day now.

I treat the movies as different multiverses, as seen in the comics. Just so happens that Nolans, while not exactly like the current Batman run, is still VERY cool in it's own way. If adapted to a comic, and given the correct artist, it would likely receive high ratings and be considered among the darker comic runs (and with Batman, that is saying something).

Touche'. When they initially brought out stuff 'bout the original Begins, I loved the Batsuit - Loved the Tumbler - but was real iffy 'bout the Scarecrow. But Nolan made it work -- But as I said in my initial post, I have full faith in Nolan -- and that's probably why. I'm waiting to reserve final judgement based on the movement and sound that the Joker will make in the inevitable release of footage. That's all. Right now, I don't like it and I'm not a fan. But I don't guarantee that that'll be my stance forever -- and I think the movie is still going to kick some major bad ass!

IAmJack600,

Did you mind when they changed the Bat-suit, or the Batmobile became the Tumbler, or how about the total change in appearance to the Scarecrow?

If you let all of those things slide in the Nolan Bat-Universe, and like the movie as a much as you say you do then this should come as no surprise to you. Nor should it bother you.

I for one expected this, and love it. I knew after watching Begins and the seeing the Joker card that Nolan was going to do something, different, unique and raw. And I couldn't wait to see it.

I'm not worried at all about this film, I know it's going to be good and at the absolute worst decent. I think the direction they are going with the Joker is just fine, because again like the poster below me commented on, the realism factor Nolan is trying to go for must be prevalent amongst all the characters he's throwing on screen.

The only possible worry I have for the film is what the old Tim Burton films did, and that is focusing way too much on the villains. I'm stoked to see the new Joker, but when you think about it unless Nolan makes this a 3 hour epic there won't be enough screen time to truly flesh out the Joker and yet again give Bruce Wayne the humanizing screen time he needs.

All in all, I can't wait to see I Am Legend and get a peek at this juggernaut.

It sucks, though, that WB will likely derail Nolan's planned Batman trilogy in favour of that dumb-@$$ JLA flick that no one seems to want to see.

I want to go on record saying that I personally, being an avid Batman comic reader my entire life, hate this look and interpretation of The Joker.

All that crap you guys are saying about it being "real" and whatever, fine -- but if they gave him prestine make-up with a sense of grit, I think you people would be praising it just as much.

The only thing we "haters" are complaining about is how the look is such a far cry from its comic book incarnation. It's not the same. You all think you know who the Joker is, but none of you appear to actually know. You just prefer one interpretation and you're sticking to it -- all the power to you. But I think you're building him up to be much more than he's going to be. How much of a psycho can he be if the flick ain't Rated R -- and let's be honest, it won't be. He won't be capable of truly f*cked up shit with a PG or PG-13 rating.

I digress -- I have full faith in Nolan. He brought my childhood hero back to the big screen in full fledged glorious force and I'll praise him forever for it. There's a reason the Joker is being made this way. All the lovers and haters, let's agree to WAIT for this film's first moving footage.

Let us see the smile spread across those jagged cheaks and the chuckle flow out of those pulsing vocal chords.

Only then do we have a true basis for our opinions.
