Whoa! Christopher Nolan to develop Superman reboot!

How's this for some shocking news for your Tuesday morning?! Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Christopher Nolan has agreed to develop a SUPERMAN reboot at Warner Bros! Nolan, it appears, will not write or direct the film but will be actively involved in "mentoring" the production and acting as a "godfather" so-to-speak to the creative team. Deadline is referring to the film as SUPERMAN 3.0 though it's likely that's just a cheeky reference to this being the third time the franchise has been started.

As they stress, and I would like to reiterate, this SUPERMAN project is in the very nascent stages of development. (So please NO "Emily Blunt as Lois Lane!!!" rumors for at least a few months.) While the film would "definitely not" be any kind of follow-up to SUPERMAN RETURNS, they claim that neither director Bryan Singer or star Brandon Routh have been giving their walking papers yet (YET...). They claim that there really isn't a plan yet for what they want to do just an agreement that Nolan will be helping them do it.

Their report also includes word that Nolan has officially hatched his concept for the third BATMAN movie and that David Goyer and Jonah Nolan are busy working on the script. So I guess that means the rumors about "Emily Blunt as Catwoman" can start again. Oh well, I guess you gotta take a little bad news to go with the good!

Very cool.
Two things:

1)DO NOT IN ANY WAY MAKE THIS REALISTIC LIKE BATMAN. SUPERMAN IS NOT REALISTIC. Stay 100% true to the comics.

2) Tie it in with Batman and the rest of the DC movie universe.

This is good news. The villians that I wanna see are Doomsday,Darkseid,Brainiac,or Leech portayed as the way he was in the animated series cause that was classic but I am leaning towards Darkseid the most.

This is a great idea as long as they have any other villian besides Lex Luther. I can't be the only one tired of seeing the same baddy over and over when there are so many other choices.

Fantastic!
Hey maybe Nolan could lend his 'mentor' like skills to a few other productions while he's at it? His cool movie resume is flawless. Say, aren't Dreamworks doing a Ghost in the Shell movie? Oh, Chris!

The key word...MENTORING.
Everyone's getting excited about Nolan who is working on the Superman movie, but he's acting as a mentor. He's not directing or producing (yet). I loved the revamped Batman movies, and I also liked Superman returns, but howzabout we give it a few decades for a reboot, instead of jumping on the reboot setting in Hollywood, eh.

... to tell the truth, I'd be more pleased if he confirmed Batman 3 as done deal, but this ... Who knows what this "mentoring" really means... Never the less, if he's onboard of new Superman movie, that's a good thing for the franchise.

To be honest I'm glad he's not directing this. As much as he's a great filmmaker (All his movies barring Insomnia rock!) he'd be wrong for this film much in the same way I said Singer would be wrong for Superman Returns. They're instinctively dark filmmakers and Superman just isn't dark. I'm assuming he knows this and will help select a creative team that suits the tone of Superman. That being ...

Well, man, I could see how some people would have a problem with this. Nolan's style works very well in the context of Batman, but it doesn't mean Superman has to be gritty and grounded in realism. Plus, imagine if he directs it and it falls below expectations. You know how people are. They'd go from worshipping him to going completely turncoat, calling him a hack and crying "reboot".

i loved supes returns a lot of ppl did. just cuz it didnt make 500 mil is no reason for WB to boot Routh, Singer, nor Spacey. it was a bit long and had some irrelevant parts. but with some of nolans elements, and keeping the SR cast and crew, this could be a fantastic movie - $500 million or not.

Great news! I didn't mind Superman Returns, in fact I kind of liked it. It was a fun throw-back to my childhood. I think they should keep Routh (an awesome Supes and even better Kent, IMHO) and ditch Singer. I doubt they'll keep Routh, but oh well. I am excited nonetheless.

I thought Spacey did a great job as Luther, but I'll be happier when we get to see someone new. If you've only seen the movies you wouldn't know Superman had any other enemies. He comes off as weak having so much trouble with old bald guy.

How about having Supes face off against someone other than Lex Luthor this time? Surely it's time for the Man of Steel to battle someone from his rogues' gallery who's his match in both brains and brawn?

The chances of Nolan's Batman having interactions with the DCU has just skyrockketed...
Besides being awesome, there has to be some interest in weaving GL & Supes into his Batman Universe.

WHOAH!
When I first saw the headlines, I thought: "Whoah! He's helming both of DC flagship heroes?!" Now that I read a little closer, it looks like he's just going to produce the new Superman film. Still, I think having Nolan on board could give Supes the jump start he's needed ever since Richard Donner left the franchise in 1980.

It's gonna be hilarious how he's going to come up with some smart-ass idea to make Superman plausible. TDK was awful when it should have been fantastic (and Batman Begins was pretty lame as well). His hearts in the right place, but he isn't as smart as he thinks he is.

I think the masses just got hypnotized by its look and feel and Heath's performance. I'm not talking for everyone else though, and I really don't get it. I do know that I watched the movie with a few guys that raved the movie (they gave it high grades), and when all was done it's like they'd seen a totally different movie.

Anyway, I bothered to write this half-assed review a while ...
