Strike Back below!
by: Ben Barna Jun. 24, 2007

Ever since I saw Emile Hirsch manhandle a skateboard in empty swimming pools with skill, grace, and sandy-blonde locks in LORDS OF DOGTOWN, I've been in love with him. His just-don't-give-a-shit attitude shines through in so many of his roles, particularly ALPHA DOG, where he even out-pimped Justin Timberlake (no easy feat).

In his next film (before he goes all Hollywood on me with SPEED RACER), Hirsch heads INTO THE WILD as Christopher McCandless, an idealist who gave up a secure and promising future to embark on an wilderness odyssey by living in the harsh Alaskan terrain, among other things. The movie is based on the best-selling non-fiction book of the same name by John Krakauer and is directed by another guy I wish I was, Sean Penn. Also, when you watch the trailer you'll notice a bunch of familiar faces, but I've posted the poster BELOW to spoil the fun for you, since all the names are listed right there.

I loved this trailer. It made me hate the inactive life of excess I live now, it made me love Emile Hirsch even more, and most of all, it did exactly what a trailer is supposed to do: it made me want to go see this movie. Check it out HERE and the movie hits theaters on September 21.

Extra Tidbit: Hirsch went from 156 to 115 pounds during the rigorous nine month shoot. Dreamy.

meh
Not at all interested in this flick myself, but it's nice to hear this site say something nice about something every once in a while. As for the comment that Alaskans don't go wandering around the state, yes we do. Yes there are deaths every year because of downed personal airplanes, snow machines, hikers and whatever. They are not all tourists. I have NO interest in doing so but I know plenty ...

They are not all tourists. I have NO interest in doing so but I know plenty who do. As for the subject of the movie himself, I will admit there was something very foolish and disturbed and tragic going on there. Not sure what he was thinking and we never will (other than this speculative account).

stupid asshole
Christopher McCandless was a dumb tourist who fucked around in the woods and got himself killed. No Alaskan would go piddle around in the wilderness by themselves, because we're not tourists, and we're not fucking stupid. I'd hope this film would serve as a warning to anymore like minded individuals (there's been quite a few who fancy themselves adventurers but don't even know how to protect t...

I'd hope this film would serve as a warning to anymore like minded individuals (there's been quite a few who fancy themselves adventurers but don't even know how to protect themselves against basic shit like exposure) but if anything it will probably just lead to more idiocy. Good riddens, you stupid yuppie.

i read this book, and really loved it. I cannot wait for this. If the adaptation is faithful, everything else should be ok.

He didn't "write" it really. It's based on a novel by John Krakauer who based it on an actual person. I know they tend to reserve this phrase for [link] but I agree that "screenplay and directed by" sounds weird and they should have it say "A Film By Sean Penn"

I can't stand Emile Hirsch. I dont know, maybe it has something to do with how shallow The Girl Next Door is, or his goofy smirk, but if i ever see him i don't know if i could resist knocking him upside the chops.

It looks interesting but why the hell does the poster say "screenplay and directed by sean penn"...don't they mean "WRITTEN and directed by"?
