Jane gives em Hell Aug. 27, 2008
Source: Moviehole
by: Mike Sampson

I think all of us at JoBlo.com are unabashed fans of Thomas Jane. That fact was hammered home last year at Comic-Con when we ran into him in the lobby of our hotel and...OK, maybe I shouldn't elaborate. Let's just say the mere mention of said encounter still tickles the JoBlo crew pink. Today we have news of Jane's next film GIVE 'EM HELL MALONE. Russell Mulcahy (THE SCORPION KING 2, RESIDENT EVIL 3) will direct the film with Jane co-starring alongside Ving Rhames and Michelle Rodriguez. The official synopsis of the film is as follows:

A tough, feared private eye named Malone is hired to protect and deliver a valuable secret to a ruthless gangster named Whitmore. But what's valuable to Whitmore is valuable to an army of thugs, assassins, and hitmen, all of whom will do anything to get the secret from Malone.

There are some rumors that the film is being set up to go direct-to-DVD but as I understanding it, nothing is set in stone yet. With a title change, I can certainly see it making a limited run in theaters (who doesn't love Thomas Jane giving people hell?!). Filming on MALONE is scheduled to begin next month in Washington.

Extra Tidbit: Mulcahy directed the very first video shown on MTV - "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles.

So, are you accusing me of just spewing hatred? You must not read the forums very much, on many other websites. What I said is tame, and it IS an opinion based on the work he has done. I have seen the majority of films ("Highlander", "Highlander II", "Blue Ice", "The Shadow", "Resident Evil: Extinction", "Scorpion King 2", "The Curse of King Tut's Tomb" ) from Mr. Mulcahy, and only one of them was any good (oh, but what a great slice of 80s "Highlander" is!). So, excuse me for having a well-founded opinion other than your own. "[I]rrational hatred from them"? Did I ever exclaim in my comment beneath any hate towards the director? No, I didn't. As a director, Mulcahy has made a slew of bad films (hence the words "terrible director"). I didn't call him a "terrible person who should burn in the pits of hell while pigmies nibble on his festering testicles" now did I? That would be border-line hate speech. The difference is I wouldn't be able to actually say that with a straight face. The same goes for Brett Ratner, Paul W.S. Anderson, and Mark Steven Johnson- just because they seem like nice guys and good persons in general, doesn't mean I have to like their movies (most of their movies are atrocious).

Is it just me or does Thomas Jane bear a striking resemblance to Mulchahy's original Highlander, Christopher Lambert?

I THINK
So many are so full of themselves here: it's sickening. Instead of opinions we got spits of irrational hatred from them. Then we don't care anymore.

Russell Mulcahy, please contunie to make movies. Just find the right one once in a while.

MR. THOMAS...
I still think you were the best PUNISHER.

'Twas not your fault that the more than 50% of the shooting script stank like the sewer under your local Taco Bell.

HOW DOES THIS STILL HAVE A CAREER?
Russell Mulcahy is one of the worst directors in history. He has not made one good movie. And yes, I'm even talking about Highlander. I wish they would remake that piece of sxxt. They can't do any worse!

HIGHLANDER IS GENIUS
Indeed, one of the finest films ever made. Mulcahy also directed the very entertaining "Razorback" and "Richochet" with Denzel Washington and Ice T. The guy might be a hack but give him a decent script and he'll deliver!

FIRECAPTAIN4, I AGREE
"Video Killed the Radio Star" is STILL Mulcahy's best work. Anyone of us could have done the same/better directing on all of his feature films. He's the guy you get after the budget goes over and you need SOMEONE.

AH, GREAT
... a terrible director kills my enthusiasm for this.

Still, it's got Jane and Rodriguez in it, so I may still rent it one day.
