Jay talks JLA and Seth

Just yesterday I had the opportunity to talk with TROPIC THUNDER star Jay Baruchel on the phone. Yes, it was a beautifully sunny in New Jersey but I stayed inside to talk to Jay, who I think is one of the funniest guys around. We talked a lot about TROPIC THUNDER, Montreal and fighting Michael Cera but that’ll all come in due time. For now I wanted to share some brief tidbits on some of Jay’s upcoming projects – JUSTICE LEAGUE and JAY AND SETH VS. THE APOCALYPSE. If you’ll remember, Jay had signed on to star as the lead villian, Max Lord, in George Miller’s JUSTICE LEAGUE before the project was postponed by Warner Bros. Jay said that they movie they were going to make would be “the greatest f*cking superhero movie of all time,” but where is it?

Well it’s been postponed indefinitely. And it keeps getting postponed. And each time it gets postponed, the chances of it getting made seem to decrease…It’s never been officially over. So there’s always that. In a heartbeat I would drop whatever I had going on to do that. That movie and what I get to do in it is like nothing I’ve ever seen or would ever get a chance to do again.

Interesting. So it seems like the cast is still in place should the film ever bubble up out of development hell. Yet, Jay didn’t sound too optimistic and while he looked back on that time fondly (“the most amount of fun I’ve ever had”), I got the impression he wasn’t holding out hope.

As for JAY AND SETH, the film is based on a popular fake trailer, that Baruchel will adapt into a film with Seth Rogen. Unlike the trailer, which took place entirely inside an apartment, expect some “pretty crazy set pieces” that will “blow everyone’s mind.” Jay says the film, which he is executive producing, will be ready to shoot in the next year. Adds Jay, “I just can’t believe people think the world wants to see the two of us sitting in an apartment during the apocalypse.”
