This evening brings the official announcement of what has been the assumption on movies sites for weeks: George Miller (HAPPY FEET, THE ROAD WARRIOR) will direct the big-screen JUSTICE LEAGUE movie.
Variety confirms much of what has been speculated about the project recently, like it's a pre-strike priority at Warner Bros. (for a summer 2009 release) and that casting should commence soon, with new actors filling out the supertights despite current franchises. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman and Green Lantern are expected to be team members, and the flick will be an FX-filled live-action extravaganza (and not fully CGI, as rumored).
According to buzz, the heroes will face villain Maxwell Lord and an army of OMAC robots, or something (I was always more of a Marvel guy and only read some of Grant Morrison's JLA run, so I don't know how cool that premise sounds). Warner Bros. owns the whole stable of DC Comics characters, so they can do whatever they want anyway. Like make a really lousy CATWOMAN movie.
Extra Tidbit:
Miller produced and shot second unit on the boat thriller DEAD CALM. Maybe he can get a part for Billy Zane in his JL movie.

IT'S STILL A BAD IDEA.
Tecmo, I don't know if Joe Public (as opposed to Joe Fanboy) WILL be able to differentiate between, say, two Batmen.
After all, Batman Begins, although ultimately successful, had a very tentative opening 'cause Joe Public still had bad memories of Joel Shitmaker's Bat-Films.
And, to me, JLA's simply not worth the risk of derailing one really successful franchise (Batman), one moderately successful franchise (Superman), and aborting several potentially successful franchises (Wonder Woman, et al.). |

I think people will be able to differentiate the Nolan and Singer singular movies from the Justice League flick, good, bad or indifferent. Yeah, its the same hero, but completely different story line.
Hopefully the script will be good and they'll get decent casting, I'd imagine they'll get the casting, but the script is where I'm a bit leery. |

Neutrality is such a beautiful thing. I really love the fact that this movie is not gonna be CGI. I HATE the fact that this movie is directed by Miller. I HATE the fact that they're not going to use the main characters like Routh, or Bale. But to see this movie would be such a great dream come true. so im a lil' divided |

HOLY F'N FLOP, BATMAN
Up until my post...just one person is actually Hip to this whole JL movie thing. And StarBolt there isn't really hip...he's just writing down his future dream flicks. What does this tell you? That people care about superheroes and the Justice League. And nobody...NOBODY...wants to relive the torture that was Batman & Robin. Those horrid images of rubber nipples and f,n dork-like lines were enough to scar our lives forever. Leave JLA to the cartoons. A bunch of superheroes on the big screen just doesn't sound right. And leave Batman to Nolan for Pete's sake...and Bruce's sake...don't screw up the bat again. =( |

GOOD IDEA BAD IDEA
Good Idea, Justice League as an animated movie. If it was CG, well, I'd wish Pixar would take on that job, but that's highyl impossible. They already have the superior Incredibles under their belt. The only other option is the already entertaining and wonderful JLU series that's been cancelled. The bad, well, a live action JLA movie is just bad. |

This will all end in tears, we do not need a Justice League movie. The only way this would be expected to work is if it WAS CGI!! It would get taken alot more seriously as there is no chance of tainting any sort of franchise ( Batman, Superman, etc ) if the roles are not played by live actors at all. We could put up with famous actors voicing the characters, but not filling their costumes |

Wait. Does this mean that there might be a slight possibility we ever get to see the Onslaught story brought to life? Because then it's ok ;) |

BLEH.
For this they're willing to potentially jeopardize Nolan's Bat-Franchise (not to mention firing Joss Whedon from a potentially viable Wonder Woman franchise)?
So, now we'll probably get DC's equivalent of X3...which might make some money in the short-term, but will probably ruin the long-term viability of their franchise(s).
I just don't understand Suits. At all. |
