Johansson sings
Apr. 29, 2008
I really don't take pleasure in ripping on people, but I feel a journalistic responsibility to play it straight. And I don't even know where to start with this mess. Apparently someone told Scarlett Johansson that she both could and should record an album of Tom Waits covers. The above is the music video for one of those songs. As is common practice for new releases, members of the test audience were approached for publicity comments but of the two left alive, one could only shiver, while the other's quotes were inaudible over the sound of her unborn fetus weeping.
A couple of her tracks feature guest vocals by David Bowie, and as well as the Tom Waits covers, there is also an original track called "A Song for Jo". The album is released on May 20th and if you hate yourself and your life, then guys, it is an absolute must-buy.

i love it, and am now excited to for the album.
plus the hottest chick in hollywood just got sexier for having david bowie sing with her covering tom waits.
shes hot and has a good taste in music.
and i agree with Rasporange Pant, that it kind of reminds me of cat power too...

i suppose i'm the only one who thinks this is good. i like Tom Waits and i like the My Bloody Valentine style production (Wall of Sound) on this song. Her vocals definitely remind me of Sinead, but thats a good thing. I'd like to hear what everyone else is listening to, so let's start there...

the video seems like a play on the whole, "I'm a celebrity I have a crappy sad life thing." Which in turn makes my head explode. She seems to have a pretty awesome career and life...for God sakes she gets to do ryan reynolds. i'll gladly trade with her.

Clearly she is doing this out of a love of Tom Waits - because the first thing I want to do after listening this is throw in "Small Change" and "Foreign Affairs" on replay, and try to forget this ever existed. This should help bolster Tom's monthly residuals.
She's got all of the idiosyncratic lethargy of Shinehead O'Conn...

She's got all of the idiosyncratic lethargy of Shinehead O'Connor, with none of the talent.
