Killer Henson puppets?

Although Muppet master Jim Henson has passed on, his company is keeping various felt-covered creatures alive. And now killing them, apparently.

The Henson Co. is looking at a script called THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS, a mature mystery thriller set in a world where man and puppets coexist (not quite harmoniously). The noir tale, from writer Todd Berger, goes like this: "When the puppet cast of an '80s children's TV show called "The Happytime Gang" begins to get murdered one by one, a disgraced puppet LAPD detective turned private eye -- with a drinking problem, no less -- takes on the case." Sounds sort of great, actually (if a bit like ROGER RABBIT with plush fabric instead of hand-drawn cels).

The Henson Co. last played with more adult fare with THE DARK CRYSTAL, a sequel of which has been in development hell for years. You may also recall that noted puppet fan Jason Segel (who displayed his foam rubber fondness in FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL) plans to bring back the beloved Muppets for a new feature film.

Extra Tidbit: Note: that pic is actually from an especially brilliant episode of the late lamented TV series "ANGEL".

That sounds awesome. I can't wait to see it. I hope they go really dark with it.

If you guys love this like i do, then check out this site. [link] I have an Internship at Bill Diamonds Studio and we have LOTS of Great Puppet Webisodes coming up in the very near future.

The shows are laced with horror, trivia, suspense, villains and a unique brand of comedy, Bill Diamond's Monster TV and its characters are brought back to life to entertain audiences everywhere. There's Dr. Boris Frankenstein, his monster, the Bride, Dracula, the Werewolf(My Favorite puppet), the Phantom, the Creature, Jekyll and Hyde, the Hunchback of Notre Dame and many others.

Working closely with Sara Karloff (Karloff Enterprises), the daughter of world renown Boris Karloff, Diamond has modeled the Boris K. Frankenstein character and other monsters after the original stars.

Take a look and enjoy. we will have a lot more going on in the upcoming months!!

Seeing as my favorite unfairly canceled Fox show ever was "Greg the Bunny", this is something I'm really excited for.

My only question
Will they refer to them as puppets? Cuz that might be kind of odd, considering what a puppet really is.

A toon can be a toon because it doesn't have someone's hand up its ass all the time. Still, love noir, love Jim Henson Company, and love their '80s endeavors into the non-muppet puppetry of "The Dark Crystal" and "Labyrinth," two of my favorite childhood movies.

Sweet!
This sounds fantastic! It does sound a lot like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which happens to be one of my favorite movies. And if Team America proved anything, seemingly serious dramas done with puppets make the best comedies.

SMILE TIME!
I remember that episode of Angel. Funny stuff. "I do not have puppet cancer!" lol

This would be even more amazing if Joss Whedon had been involved, but it still sounds like a fun idea.

It's Jason Segel, not Peter. His character's name in Forgetting Sarah Marshall was Peter.

You Mean Jason Segel
Peter Segal is a mediocre at best director of mostly Adam Sandler movies. That being said, the premise of this is actually interesting. It could be good.

"I do not have puppet cancer!" One of the best Angel episodes. A great show overall. And the idea of this movie perks my ears because I do have a love of puppets.
