Strike Back below!
by: Mike Sampson Jul. 8, 2009

Yesterday you heard the news that a MACGRUBER movie was coming to the big-screen to be directed by Jorma Taccone. Today we have some word on what the hell this movie is going to be about and who else is going to star.

Because every good hero needs a sidekick and a villain, Ryan Phillippe and Val Kilmer will co-star with MACGRUBER regulars Will Forte and Kristen Wiig in the film. Phillippe will star as Piper, an army officer forced to accompany MacGruber on his mission. Kilmer will play the film's main bad guy, Cunth, who has stolen a nuclear warhead (MacGruber is out to stop him because Cunth killed his wife). In the film, MacGruber is pulled out of retirement (where he's been living as a monk in Ecuador) to once again serve his country.

Forte and Taccone wrote the script with John Solomon and SNL head Lorne Michaels will produce. It's unclear yet whether the film will be set up at Paramount where all previous SNL films have been released.

There's been a lot of feedback that this movie is either awesome or terrible. What do you think? Do the additions of Jorm as a director or the casting of Phillippe and Kilmer help at all?

Extra Tidbit: They should get Michael Bay to direct MACGRUBER.

R.I.P., Kilmer's career.

And what REALLY perplexes me is he didn't even play a coach in order to have his career divebomb like this.

C'mon...MacGruber can hardly carry the 30 second skits that he's in, how is this gonna work as a movie?

Seriously...
Why the living fuck is MacGruber getting the big screen treatment? MacGruber is one of the worst, most painfully unfunny sketches in SNL's history. I despise MacGruber, and the thought of it becoming a film makes me want to vomit. This is a terrible fucking idea.

What about
What about an actual MacGyver movie?

I've never seen the skit so I can't comment beyond that.

Val Kilmer is always good in comedies. But this still doesnt seem right, since the sketches were only about 20 secs. each. and the monk thing sounds like Ace Ventura 2

another SNL skit movie?
SNL skits (except Blues Bro's and Wayne's World) simply don't translate well to movies, man. Remember: It's Pat! (SUCKED) Superstar (SUCKED LESS BUT SUCKED ANYWAY) Ladies Man (AS HORRIBLE AS PEDOPHILIA) A Night at the Roxbury (FUCK!) Coneheads (MMM... THIS WASN'T SO BAD, KINDA)

This is a stupid idea. You'll see.

you really think they'll be able to pull off having a character named "Cunth"?
