Keira Knightley will star in THE BEAUTIFUL AND THE DAMNED for director John Curran (THE PAINTED VEIL). The film will revolve around acclaimed writer F. Scott Fitzgerald and his often turbulent marriage with wife Zelda Sayre, an alleged schizophrenic. Knightley will play Sayre. Of course, Fitzgerald wrote the short-story that THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON was based on.

The article doesn't say but I have to assume that Knightley got the role after Leslie Man turned it down. Knightley is hot and she does period pieces at a canter, but I don't think anyone can do crazy bitch wife like Mann.

Extra Tidbit: When I say 'schizophrenic' I don't mean it in the way people seem to understand it, which is, multiple personalities. I mean it like THIS.

"The Painted Veil" showed signs of greatness
I like Keira pretty well, although I wish she would eat something once in a while, but "The Painted Veil" although not perfect, is exactly what character development is. It reminded me of films that came out before we were all wowed by CGI. The acting between Edward Norton & Naomi Watts really showcased their ability to act & not need Special Effects to distract us from plot development. If you can watch a film w/out seeing things blow up every 10 seconds (don't get me wrong I do love those too) then hopefully John Curran can do the same w/this. The problem is that "Veil" wasn't a easy film to market, but maybe w/Keira's name attached this will help some, although I doubt it. Even reading the summary of this film it will be a hard sell nevertheless. If you can stand waiting for the plot & stick w/the characters for an hour or so you will not be disappointed. I hope this is a hit, but this sounds like an extremely tough sell, but if it is anything like "Painted Veil" this should be an excellent film. I would recommend anything this director does in the future, I just hope it can find an audience, let alone distribution. Here's hoping though!!

Schizophrenia is not
Schizophrenia is - most simply put - hearing voices in your head.
Multiple Personality Disorder (now it's "dissociative identity disorder", but "DID" is a sillier ananogram) is where people have multiple personalities.
Typically, those with MPD also have schizophrenia.
