Ledger talks Joker

I know that there was a poll a little while back, which showed (apparently) which films where the most anticipated of next year. And I know that THE DARK KNIGHT did an admirable second placing. But I also know that for me, and a LOT of you schmoes, there is not a single damn movie that I want to see ahead of the BATMAN BEGINS sequel. And a big part of that reason is seeing what Heath Ledger does with the Joker. Ledger spoke to the NY Times recently, largely about I’M NOT THERE, but also about his process for THE DARK KNIGHT: His joker is a “psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy… Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,” he said. “I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.”

Apparently – and I think this is brilliant – he prepared for the role by meticulously collecting items for a ‘Joker diary’, filled with images and thoughts helpful to the Joker back story, like a list of things the Joker would find funny. (AIDS is one of them.)

Second most anticipated my ass!
