Len Wiseman's next? Aug. 2, 2007
Source: IESB   by: Dave Davis

Director Len Wiseman is certainly deserving of some credit. He's got a successful movie franchise under his belt (regardless of what you think of the UNDERWORLD movies, they made cake), he just brought John McClane back to a $300+ million global box office, and he's married to a spectacularly sexy actress. He's even handsome. Bastard.

In fact, it sounds like New Line respects him so much that they're giving him dibs on a couple of their major upcoming projects: their ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake and the adaptation of monster hit videogame GEARS OF WAR. Yes, possibly both -- IESB says that the two projects (both of which are currently slated for 2009 release) would be part of a new overall deal for Mr. Beckinsale at the faltering studio.

ESCAPE has Gerard Butler attached to play infamous eyepatch-wearing antihero Snake Plissken, and GEARS tells of soldiers fighting back against an alien takeover on a distant world. Both have scripts in place, so if Wiseman's involvement is true, expect at least one of them to get rolling in the upcoming months. With lots of blue filters.

Extra Tidbit: Wiseman was one of several directors rumored to be taking WOLVERINE solo.

If anyone's ACTUALLY interested (since so many of you replied to it)... I spent my November 2006 in Montana doing winter hikes and scoping out wildlife... Not in front of my TV screen playing a video game. I'm perfectly happy not knowing what the new big thing is.

Again though, let's get with the Underworld 3 and drop the Plissken remake. Even Russell got pissed about that one, I heard.

ADVICE TO WISEMAN:
say "Thank You Very Much" to New Line and direct something else, like Die Hard 5.0. When the f... will Hollywood stop making crappy remakes of John Carpenter's movies?

AWESOME
I'd say put all your time into a smash up,Gears of War movie. And make sure you have at least one(if not more)scenes of someone getting a fucking chainsaw to the chest, that's one of my favorite parts of the game.

And someone buy, Mod Hip a ticket to the here and now. Gears is blowing up. Jump on the coletrain, baby.

I just rewatched escape from ny and I can deal with a remake... it isn't THAT awesome and I think it is perfect remake material... a lot better than Halloween.

So bring it on!

My thing is, drop the plissken remake, direct gears of war, and track down Stan Winston or WETA to do your aliens.

Oh, and get Underworld 3 going too.

NEVER HEARD OF GEARS OF WAR?
Someone's living in a dream world. It's only the 2nd biggest game (next to Halo 3) on Xbox 360... I'd be interested in seeing this as a movie, and even more-so with Wiseman in the director's chair!

Snake Plisken... I thought you were dead!

IMO? JURY'S STILL OUT ON BUTLER.

Sure, Butler was great in the gleefully OTT 300...but he was dreadful as the Phantom, and he was just boring, boring, boring as Dracula. And, in my book, one good movie does not a star make.
