Ok, anyone who says that people that don't vote don't have a right to complain...DEAD WRONG.
George Carlin had an interesting take on this:
"I believe if you vote you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around...they say if you don't vote you don't have a right to complain...but where is the logic in that? If you vote, and you elect dishonest, incompetent people and they get into office and screw everything up...well you are responsible for everything they have done...you caused the problem...you voted them in...you have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote, who, in fact, did not even leave the house on election day, am in no way responsible for what these people have done and have every right to complain as loud as I want about the mess you created that I had nothing to do with."
It really scares me that there are people who will watch this video and vote. I'm sorry, but I can say with a lot of certainty that 99% of the celebrities in that video are liberals and the vote they're trying to get is for Obama. If they were true to just "getting people involved" you'd have other celebrities such as Sly Stallone, Clint Eastwood, Dennis Miller, James Woods, Jon Cryer, and Stephen Baldwin in the video, all who support McCain. This is a farce. They are targeting young people, who most will tilt Democratic and see the younger, "sexy" candidate Obama and vote for him.
Yeah, I'm voting for McCain. However, I have no problem with people that are voting for Obama, as long as they are informed and know the reasons that they believe he will improve America(other than "change" and "hope"). I feel the same way for McCain supporters. I know that voting is one of our basic rights, however it does really scare the hell out of me that there are people that don't know anything about what's going on and believe they "have to vote." Some people have no business voting. |

So let's look at this: Why would you want to encourage the people who were not planning to vote already? Those who, in fact, truly are unaware that you have to register first... why would you want them to vote? Because you want that all-important "Ignorance Vote", that's why. You want the vote of people who will go out and vote simply because a celeb tells them they should.
So, who stands to benefit the most from the Ignorance Vote? Well, it's no secret that the news media is largely slanted to the left, and those poor, unthinking, celebrity-swayed people are likely to believe just any old thing they hear on the news, because "that's The News, that's official; they don't tell you only what they want you to hear, they tell the Truth." So, if "The News" tells them that Obama is the better choice, then the Ignorance Vote will go to Obama. "Well, Kanye West told me to vote, and Katie Couric told me to vote for Obama; and y'know, I want my voice to be heard and all, so I did what they told me."
For the same reason, I hate those election signs everyone puts up in their front yard. They cannot possibly be useful for any other purpose but to get the Ignorance Vote, based purely on name recognition. Election signs are for the ignorant voter, period. This video takes it much farther, because the signs only bring in ignorant voters who are voting already; this thing will bring in the supremely ignorant. I mean, it's a sound election strategy; but at it's heart, it's nothing but a devious Liberal plot disguised as a call to civic pride and responsibility. I say, "Liberal plot" because as I pointed out, they are the ones who have control of the media, which is essential for the plot to work.
One more thing, the argument that you should vote JUST so you have the right to complain later is pretty lame. On a certain level it's right, but some on here make it sound like that is THE reason they're voting. SkyNet wrote, "don't say you don't care if you actually do." I agree. But neither should you say you do care if you actually don't... and vote JUST so you feel justified in complaining later. Because c'mon, when you hear people talking about the condition the country is in, do you police them with a "hey, pal, before you say any more... did you vote?" Nah, ya don't. So if you don't actually police people on it, then your decree doesn't really mean anything, so why bring it up?

WELL NOW ISN'T ANGST JUST SO COOL?
I love the "I'm not going to do it if they try make it look cool" attitude. That so rocks like an early-90s hair band.
Oh, and *you know*, there are a thing called write-in candidates. You'd be better served to say you voted for the guy who played Huggy Bear when asked than saying you stayed at home to transfer cheeto stains from your fingers to your dick, while watching a Rock the Vote video trying to beat it off before the hot chicks disappear and Forrest Whitaker shows up and you pull your dick off when trying to run the video back.
But yeah, that video went on too long. |

you know, there ARE people out there that dont vote for president because they actually dont like either candidate, it is actually more common than most people think. even out of the people who take the time out of there day to wait in line and go to polling stations, there are those who dont cast a vote for the presidential race, that is what they call an Undervote. albeit, yes the majority of people who dont vote are either just lazy, but have an opinion just the same, or they couldnt care less. but not all. but in the end, what most people who are posting on this article are mad about is the way these ads go about trying to belittle and shame the population into voting, when in reality that makes them want to do it even less. it would seem more appropriate if they made it easier for people to know how to or where to go in order to register to vote in the first place. i mean forget the candidates for a moment, there are plenty of people who wouldnt even know where to go even if they wanted to. so these ads are actually too simple-minded to actually be of any help, it is like telling a kid to run when he hasnt learned to walk yet. |

ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE
Let me first say that I think everyone should vote, and I am voting for Obama.
However, I do know people for whom not voting IS their vote. Some are very disgusted with the state of politics in this country, and they feel that the choice between the two parties is a false choice. By not voting, you are making a statement as well. I personally think that is a defendable position. |

REFRESHING
I just couldn't help be give a shout out to all of my fellow posters on here at joblo. I am encouraged to see that, regardless of party affiliations or opinions, we can all come together and agree that this condescending attitude brought on by Hollywood has gone BEYOND ridiculous. After all the hate that has been spewed from both sides in recent years, it is nice to finally see "discussions" and opinions given rather than anonymous attacks trying to demonize each other. I commend you all. |

"If you don't vote, you can't bitch about the country or anything about it later"!
Why can't you?
because if you don't vote... that means you had no say in the way this country has gone... and if you have no say when the election comes, than you should have no say later on when whichever ticket wins may be screwing up.
It's like saying "I DONT CARE" loud and clear... so if you don't care, than you don't care, which is all well and good, but don't say you don't care if you actually do. You can't have your cake and eat it to, as the old adage says. |

I'M SORRY
But after the senate (both presidential nominees) gave the finger to the nation (77% who disagreed with bailing out the greedy banks) all of these celebs can kiss my ass. Your man doesn't give a damn about me regardless of what he says on tv about change. The other guy says one thing and did another. Wonder whom I'm gonna vote for now? |
