Tim Burton has Johnny Depp, Fellini had Mastroianni, and Scorsese has DeNiro. There's nothing that excites me more than when I hear that a director is teaming up with his or her muse--the one actor that can capture said director's vision like no one else.
The duo that brought us MEAN STREETS, CAPE FEAR, TAXI DRIVER, RAGING BULL, GOODFELLAS, CASINO, THE KING OF COMEDY and NEW YORK, NEW YORK are at it again with Paramount's I HEARD YOU PAINT HOUSES. The really, really good news is that this is Scorsese's and DeNiro's bread and butter--it's a gangster flick.
The film, which is to be adapted from a book by Steve Zaillian (SCHINDLER'S LIST) is about the mob assassin who many believe was involved in the death of Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa. Naturally, DeNiro will play Frank "the Irishman" Sheeran, who is said to have carried out more than 25 mob murders. Gee, DeNiro as a mob hitman. I can't see it.
Extra Tidbit:
So which Scorsese/DeNiro film is your favorite?

The best news Ive heard all day, u couldve just said Deniro and marty are doin another movie together but it made it even better that itll be a gangster movie I love it. Itd be cool if Leo had a part cuz Deniros been wanting to work with him again ever since This Boys Life and his best movies have been with Marty.
Favorite Deniro/Scorsese movie is a tie btw Casino and Goodfellas but I love the rest of them too. |

WHICH IS MY FAVORITE? ALL OF THEM.
And I'll go one better: De Niro should've been in every fucking film Scorsese's made.
Vincent in The Color of Money. DeNiro. Jesus in Last Temptation of Christ.
DeNiro.
Dalai Lama in Kundun. DeNiro.
Mick Jagger in Shine A Light. DeNiro.
The Wesley Snipes part in Michael Jackson's "Bad" video? Guess who? That's right.

I can't believe there are people who actually have the balls to say "fuck De Niro". I'd like to see them try saying that to his face, then we'll see how fucking tough they are. |

Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull.... the best.
and FUCK YOU to all the haters who say FUCK DENIRO.
he owes your punk ass nothing. go watch his classics and remind yourself why this man still commands respect. His shit is timeless. doesnt matter if it came out in the 70's or the 90's. Still stands up.
Most actors are lucky to have one classic iconic movie. He's got a bunch and they are classic primarily because of his performance.
You're probably the same assholes who bitch about Tarrantino. |

NoDirectionHome, I agree with everything you wrote, except for the part about The Good Shepard being a sign of life; that was DOA. |

I'd see this in a second.
DeNiro, Scorsese, and the mob are a winning combination and the Hoffa story is just fascinating. While DeNiro hasn't been on the top of his game lately, I'd argue that has more to do with the roles he's getting than his ability - I am sure he still has great performances left in him and if anyone can get it out of him it's Scorsese. Of all the directors currently working in Hollywood, I'd say Scorsese is hands down the best when it comes to dealing with actors.
I'd like to see DiCaprio in this as well, it would be great to see Scorsese's old go to guy and new go to guy in action. |

First off Id like to say FUCK Robert DeNiro. The man has become bloated egotistical diva who hasnt payed his dues in over ten years. Is he even capable of acting anymore without parodying himself ? Same could be said for numerous actors of the same vein; but at least they try to retain some dignity. As much as the fan in me wants to see a repairing with Scorsese; it just doesnt seem sincere--more of PR stunt to again capitalize on his name. I mean thats all DeNiro has become a hallow moniker which is stamped on projects just for the sake of revenue from dupes on the street . He's become the Krusty Clown of movies. Perhaps Im wrong, he's shown some signs of life recently with GOOD SHEPARD and STARDUST; but Im still skeptical as to why now is he reteaming with Scorsese ? Why did he turn down THE DEPARTED or AVIATOR; they werent great film but far superior than the films he did within the same time span. I realize Im rambling but I just watched 88 MINUTES and its only out of disappointment watching once great actor's slum for paychecks rather than further there talent.
favorite Scorsese/DeNiro : RAGING BULL (2) CASINO |
