McLovin kicks ass! Aug. 15, 2008
Source: Hollywood Reporter
by: Mike Sampson

McLovin as a super villain? Matthew Vaughn is moving ahead with his adaptation of Mark Millar's high school superhero flick KICK-ASS and has signed Mr. McLovin, Christopher Mintz-Plasse to star as his villain, Red Mist. Also cast in the film is Chloe Moretz who will star as a foul-mouthed 11-year-old who fights bad guys with a ninja sword. Vaughn has yet to announce who will play his lead, Dave Lizewski, a nerd who decides to reinvent himself a superhero despite his lack of superpowers or basic athleticism. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "violent nature" of the film has led to all the major studios passing on the film but Vaughn believes in it so much he personally raised the $30 million himself. Odd that studios would pass because of violence when Millar's WANTED wasn't exactly G-rated and that did pretty well at the box office. Vaughn wrote the film with his longtime partner Jane Goldman and will begin filming this fall. If anyone has a copy of the script, I'd love to take a read and see what's doing here. Looks like a damn good time so far!

Extra Tidbit: Moretz currently voices the lead human character in Disney's "My Friends Tigger & Pooh."

WOW!
This seems pretty unconventional, but I think he can pull it off. Interesting casting!

I read elsewhere that stated McLovin was playing the titular nerd. Who's correct?

With the economic downturn, the studios are getting a lot more paranoid about less R-rated movies, and getting more G and PG-rated films. Basically, they want as many buns in seats as humanly possible. So when a director says he wants a hard R for his film, executives get cold feet. The same thing happened to David Fincher with Heavy Metal.

Goldman isn't his partner (as far as I'm aware he's married to Claudia Schiffer?), she is married to UK TV presenter Jonathon Ross.
