Metal Gear: The Movie Feb. 9, 2007

Sony has signed a deal to bring popular Konami videogame METAL GEAR SOLID to the big screen. The project has been in the works for some time and at the 2006 E3 convention creator Hideo Kojima said a film was underway and that a contract had been signed. Kojima was jumping the gun though as negotiations between Sony and Konami have continued since then with the deal only now becoming final. Michael De Luca (BOOGIE NIGHTS) is producing the film for Sony, which hopes the film can spwan a franchise. The video game franchise has been around since 1987 when it first debuted in Japan and was later adapted for the original Nintendo system. The game saw a comeback almost 10 years later when METAL GEAR SOLID, named after main character Solid Snake, debuted on Playstation One. There have been two sequels to SOLID and a fourth, "Guns of the Patriots" is due soon. No writer or director is attached to the film yet and it's unclear how much creative control Konami and Kojima will have over the film.

Extra Tidbit: Uwe Boll had expressed interest in directing METAL GEAR SOLID but Konami said emphatically that they would never work with Boll.

Dude...their right. Biehn looks SO much like the guy on the cover there. For casting now....worst case would be Stuart Townsend, but I'm hoping for Adam Baldwin, Josh Holloway, or (maybe) Nathan Fillion.

I think Kojima hinted at Viggo Mortensen at E3, not officially but as his favorite for the part. I could be wrong though

Besides, worse comes to worst, never forget: the making of the movie isn't going to destroy all your copies of the games. If it turns out badly, just forget about it and play the games. Done.

I think Kojima will be heavily involved and that means it will most likely not only be the best videogame movie, it'll be an amazing movie all around.

Oh and BTW, Metal Gear Solid wasn't named after Solid Snake. The "Solid" was added because this was the first game in the series to have "solid" (3D) graphics.

Is that true? If so, that's awesome, because Michael Biehn is only one of my favorite actors (hence me being psyched he's in Grindhouse). Anyway, I trust Kojima, and I definitely have faith in this movie. The games are pretty much already interactive movies.

Im excited for this, but it would be muy stupido if Kojima did not get any creative control. This is like his kid, and the games have always been rather cinematic.
