Metal Gear: The Movie Feb. 9, 2007
Source: Variety   by: Mike Sampson

Sony has signed a deal to bring popular Konami videogame METAL GEAR SOLID to the big screen. The project has been in the works for some time and at the 2006 E3 convention creator Hideo Kojima said a film was underway and that a contract had been signed. Kojima was jumping the gun though as negotiations between Sony and Konami have continued since then with the deal only now becoming final. Michael De Luca (BOOGIE NIGHTS) is producing the film for Sony, which hopes the film can spwan a franchise. The video game franchise has been around since 1987 when it first debuted in Japan and was later adapted for the original Nintendo system. The game saw a comeback almost 10 years later when METAL GEAR SOLID, named after main character Solid Snake, debuted on Playstation One. There have been two sequels to SOLID and a fourth, "Guns of the Patriots" is due soon. No writer or director is attached to the film yet and it's unclear how much creative control Konami and Kojima will have over the film.

Extra Tidbit: Uwe Boll had expressed interest in directing METAL GEAR SOLID but Konami said emphatically that they would never work with Boll.

WOLFGANG SHOULD DIRECT
They don't even need to make a new story line; the story lines in the games are so good, you could emulate them, and have a great movie. problem is, your alienating your videogame crowd, who probably would like to see a NEW story.

the snakes charector design of that game was based on beihn from terminator and big boss in the game was based on sean connery with an eye patch.

even though a movie would be bad ass in the right hands and i cant wait to see it i will stick with just the games cuss they are cinimatic enough and the story is a hellova lot better.

Dude...their right. Biehn looks SO much like the guy on the cover there. For casting now....worst case would be Stuart Townsend, but I'm hoping for Adam Baldwin, Josh Holloway, or (maybe) Nathan Fillion.

I don't think Kurt Russel should ever again involve himself in a film that has a character named SNAKE, period. As for the character of SNAKE I could live with Viggo Mortensen in the role. As long as Uwe Boll isn't involved, I'm in.

I'm still thinking that the best (modern) choice for Solid Snake would be Hugh Jackman, although naturally Kurt Russell in his prime would've been the best. Maybe they could make him Big Boss or something. That would be cool.

Eric Bana or Hugh Jackman for Snake. Kurt Russell is DESTINED for Big Boss.

I think Kojima hinted at Viggo Mortensen at E3, not officially but as his favorite for the part. I could be wrong though

GREAT NEWS, BUT WORST CASE SCENARIO
This is gonna be great. MGS is Kojima's baby and he's not gonna let this one stick up cineplexes.

Besides, worse comes to worst, never forget: the making of the movie isn't going to destroy all your copies of the games. If it turns out badly, just forget about it and play the games. Done.

Well since the character was based off of Snake from Escape from N.Y. they should just use Kurt Russell...but that would be confusing
