Modern day Merlin?

DreamWorks has picked up the Brian K. Vaughan ("Lost") spec script ROUNDTABLE that would bring Merlin to the modern world. Described as "more GHOSTBUSTERS than EXCALIBUR," the action comedy follows Merlin traveling to modern day society to battle an ancient evil that turns up in our day and age. He recruits what he believes to be the best knights we have to offer but they wind up being washed-up athletes, nerdy scientists and actors. Sounds kinda TROPIC THUNDER-esque (or at least like the many movies with the same unheroes having to become heroes concept). Vaughan has been busy as of late with his Marvel comic RUNAWAYS set for an adaptation at Marvel Studios and New Line actively developing Y: THE LAST MAN with DJ Caruso. A number of studios were involved in a bidding war for the project but DreamWorks won out with $650K against $1 million. Vaughan will also serve as executive producer on the film. No word on when filming might begin.

It had me excited until the sentence "action-comedy".

What a shame too..could've been like a [link] type of movie.

charming? agreed.

Yeah, it does sound charming...and hopefully they don't let someone like Brett Ratner or McG or Chris Columbus anywhere near it.

Great Idea
It does sound charming and like a great premise. What it is not is a sequel, remake or another comic book adaptation. I'm in!

As long as they arnt fighting the dark knight and it doesn't come off like The Fisher King... it could be good.
