Monster Squad DVD! May. 1, 2007

Nostalgic fans who have been clamoring for an official DVD of the oft-bootlegged 80s artifact MONSTER SQUAD won't have to wait much longer. Soon they'll be able to see kids with dated wardrobe and hairstyles do battle with classic creatures to a synth-pop score, in all the glory of the digital format.

The long-demanded DVD finally arrives on July 24th, courtesy of the genre lovers at Lionsgate, who finally plucked it out of limbo. The 2-disc set will feature commentaries, a reunion featurette, deleted and extended scenes, and all sorts of devilish delights. The cover art you see here recently appeared at DVD Empire.

For those who've never seen it, the flick (co-written by Shane Black and featuring FX work by Stan Winston) follows a group of middle-school misfits obsessed with creatures of the night. They get their big chance when Dracula blows into town for some evildoing with Frankenstein's monster, Wolfman (and his nards), the Mummy and Gillman as his henchmen. It's up to the adolescent fiend-fighters to send Drac and his cronies back to the hell that spawned them.

Extra Tidbit: Director Fred Dekker's other cult fave NIGHT OF THE CREEPS has also yet to arrive on DVD.

I have been waiting for this flick since the first DVD was burned. I will sleep well tonight.

Finally, a true classic of the 80's and one of my favorite flicks as a kid will be in my collection and getting the treatment it deserves.

This should, hopefully, be worth the extended wait.

Ah man, I have been silently praying for this classic gem to be released on DVD. So little known but a real treat. I got my fingers on a VHS tape and I wear it thin every stinkin' Halloween. I took it to a friend's house for his big Monster Mash and played it during the party. Everybody got so tuned into the movie they shut off "Werewolves of London" and turned up the audio. We all ended up sitting in the living room and watching this thing to the end.

"Creature stole my twinkie!"

I still prefer the old cover though, its just classic and slightly haunting with the shadow faces of the monsters in the background and Rudy holding the lantern.

Now I wont need to scout eBay for bootleg copies anymore! I actually saw a midnight showing in San Jose, CA of this movie and actually got to meet some of the lead cast and the director! Got great pictures too! If anyone remembers the movie like I do, you would remember that little girl named Phoebe that befriends Frankie. Let me just say she was quite a cutie now.

"Dont be a chicken shit!" - Ashley Bank (Phoebe)

Also, check out my sweet promo flyer signed by the cast and the director himself! Ask them all to put their favorite line from the flick! WOOT!

FYI, That is freaking awesome DVD cover and looks to have from great work put into it!
