BIG-TIME DOUCHE!
I ALWAYS thought this guy's works were overrated to begin with, but I enjoyed the shit out of both V FOR VENDETTA and FROM HELL (the movies), and I'm sure he hasn't seen either of them (because I guess he thinks NOBODY can create anything good out of his work, eh?).
I agree with many of you who say that he sounds like an old cranky dick who's afraid to consider other people's works of "art". In other words, if it's not Alan Moore, it's shite.
BTW, I thought the WATCHMEN graphic novel was one of the boringest things I'd ever read. I almost feel asleep while reading it. The trailer looks great though, so once again, FILM beats Moore's overrated writing, imho.
As for calling COMIC-CON "creepy", yeah and it's all those "creeps" that are paying your f*ckin' mortgages, douchebag! |

I agree with Elessar83. As someone who's closely followed Moore's career since the early 80s, owns most of his work and has poured over huge amounts of interview footage of him, my conclusion is that he's a little more than an extremely talented egotist who'll shit on YOU for not being HIM.
He once described V for Vendetta as his reaction to Margaret Thatcher's administration and said how surprised he was to see Britain so easily lead into fascism...yet when it comes to the work of other artists he's the biggest fascist of them all.
I love his writing (more than anybody else's) but he's never struck me as anything but dismissively judgemental not to mention a pretentious and self-centered jerk.
Personally I'm glad he's a recluse. |

OVERRATED
Never read Watchmen, but I've read the League books, From Hell and V, and his stuff decent at best. From Hell was ungodly long. The second League book was terrible. V was good. He comes off as a pompous ass in his interviews. He needs to stop drinking his own Kool-Aid... |

I agree with Preston, that you can't criticize a movie if you haven't seen it, no matter how close of a copy it is to the source material. And the guys who say that 300 is homoerotic, are just uncomfortable with the fact that they enjoyed watching shirtless guys on screen. I'd say Frodo and Sam had a more homoerotic relationship than that of the Spartans.
And if Moore is so bitter about having his comics turned into movies, he should stop selling the rights to movie studios, or buy the fucking rights from the publisher so you can keep them out of the studios hands. Stop bitching and do something about it, Alan! |

Alan Moore is hilarious. I understand the hate for LOEG but From Hell is a (somewhat flawed) classic IMO. I guess he really hasn't watched it. |

Cool interview. I'm surprised he gave in to doing one for Entertainment Weekly, personally.
I don't blame him for not wanting to associate with Hollywood after the shitfests that are, well, just about every story they've adapted into films (they all suck to me, even Vendetta).
I think it's refreshing to have an artist say he only writes comics to just be comics, and doesn't expect them to be turned into films. These days it's like writers only write something so it'll become a Hollywood project. I read Watchmen recently, and I honestly can't see it doing well as a film. American audiences are going to be pissed at the end, if they stay true to it of course, and if they don't, you really can't blame Moore. |

I'm torn. On the one hand, I agree with The_Comix, he sounds like a real prick. On the other hand, he's written some of the greatest books of all time. I don't know how to feel. |

Guys like Alan Moore like to be shrouded in mystery because they know they're just as common as the next guy, but he imagines he's better than the average person. The air must thin up there on his high stool he sits on criticizing everyone and everything around him. He comes of as the type that doesn't like to be challenged and would sooner cover his ears and go "Lalalalala, I can't hear you." Go live in solitude where your ego is safe Mr. Moore.
PS: That beard is homophobic. |
