More Ghostbusters?!? Sep. 4, 2008
Source: Variety
by: Dave Davis

Was Dan Aykroyd right all along?

For years, the alter-ego of spook-shooter Ray Stantz cheerfully discussed the possibility of another GHOSTBUSTERS movie, but it never came together (with rumors of disdain among the principals and economic infeasibility as the primary reasons). There was talk of replacing the cast with new actors as a different team of specter hunters, a computer-animated movie, and a sequel done as a next-gen videogame (which now seems to be in limbo at the moment).

But there's life in the corpse after all. According to Variety, Columbia has conscripted "THE OFFICE" (US) co-exec producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to write a script for a new GHOSTBUSTERS -- with the intention of bringing back all the original players!

The duo penned the historical comedy YEAR ONE, which Harold Ramis directed (as well as several episodes of "THE OFFICE"). Speculation is that the healing started there, although the notable absence of recent hits on the stars' collective filmographies might have been a contributing factor. We'll see if it's enough to get everyone strapped into portable proton packs for more stream-crossing.

Extra Tidbit: No, the chick has nothing to do with the new GHOSTBUSTERS project. But the image came up on Google search, and I like cleavage.

GET THAT CHICK
get that chick for the movie!
nice.

david duchovny played a ghostbuster-type guy in EVOLUTION (loved that movie btw ... funny as ... ) , and it'll be cool if he actually played that same character in this movie.

I'm sorry but a ghostbusters movie without any of the original cast would be a colossal kick to the balls...so whoever had that idea needs to go sit in a corner. One of the biggest hurdles this movie would have is the fact that Ramis + Murray haven't been on speaking terms for over a decade now.

I mentioned guys like Pegg and Duchovny for more or less, a pool of actors to consider for Ghostbusters because...for a group like that you have to be a bit picky.

My top favorites the more I think it are:
David Duchovny (The more I think about it, The more I like him in it)
Simon Pegg
Paul Rudd
Craig Robinson
Jason Lee
Bill Hader
Orlando Jones (Think about it...)

For a female Ghosbuster, I dig the idea of Anne Hathaway ChrisWalken. I also wanna throw out there: Kristen Wiig, Leslie Mann, Elisabeth Banks, Rosario Dawson. If not as a Ghostbuster, then as the secretary if nothing else at least.

I would love a new Ghostbusters movie. And I would be okay if none of the original players make an on-screen appearance.
I think the previously mention Bill Hader and Simon Pegg are excellent ideas for new ghostbusters. I would also like to submit Anne Hathaway too.

I only have slightly more faith in this thing since Harold Ramis has made an onscreen comeback as of late joining the Apatow crew for "Knocked Up" and "Walk Hard." I have to agree they are probably all either too old or almost there. But to be honest, I won't be convinced until Sigourney Weaver signs back on (and Ernie Hudson).

GAME ERROR
I retrack my previous statement about the ghostbusters game on October 21. According to amazon, it's slated for a June 30, 2009 release in order to coincide probably with the 25th anniversary, which royally pisses me off becaue I was looking forward to that release!!

HECK YEAH!
I grew up with Ghostbusters and if pulled off well, this could be a great movie that pays homage to the original formula that made the first GB so great.

As far as the game goes, it comes out on most major platforms with all the original actors on October 21 and there's even a website for it too. It's www.ghostbustersgame.com and it's also available for pre-order on amazon. How do I know this? I pre-ordered it..haha

As far as the new actors go, I would like to see people who can portray the same characteristics as the original foursome. So we would need to see someone who was the smart guy, the bewildered one, the smart ass, and the rational one. I can totally see Jonah Hill bringing the smart-ass game to the movie. I'm not sure about other actors/actresses though. Whatever happened to the ghostbusters cartoon show The Real Ghostbusters??
