Strike Back below!
by: Dave Davis Nov. 30, 2009

Now that the TWILIGHT movies are genuine generators of green, studios are frantically ransacking the young adult section of bookstores looking for a monsterish teen franchise of their own.

As Warner Bros. prepares to wave goodbye to Harry Potter, they're hoping the new book "BEAUTIFUL CREATURES" will fill the void of dreamy teenagers and barely beasts, and launch another unstoppable wave of screechy diet-horror obsessed girls.

The book (planned as the first in a series, surprise!) comes from female writing duo Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

The story: "Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them."

The novel is being adapted by writer-director Richard LaGravenese, who dabbled with romance and death and large teeth on P.S. I LOVE YOU.

Extra Tidbit: Is this better or worse than the onslaught of SAW imitators from the past few years?

PASS!
This is the lamest plot on the history of the planet. This project explains what is wrong with film today. Ugh.

Why can't we just have normal vampire movies like we used to have? Fright Night, From Dusk Till Dawn, Near Dark? Or at least Bram Stoker's Dracula. Jeez.

I'm looking forward to the day when we stop loving vampires and other monsters, and start killing them again.

Couldn't agree more. Sounds exactly like Twilight only with reverse gender... this is like a plague to the fantasy genre!
