A Good Day To Die Hard will be rated…

…R!!

No, I’m not f*cking with you.  We have it from a very credible source that A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD will be returning to the franchise’s roots and take on the blood-spattered, curse-laden goodness that once was the DIE HARD brand with an R-rating.  That’s right, no more Yippie-Ki-Yay, motherBLAM!

Yeah, it sounds almost too good to be true and there isn’t a blow-by-blow explanation for why just yet, but the prospects of seeing John McClane in all his proper R-rated glory gives me a few goosepimples.  I know that some enjoyed LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD for what it was, and that’s fine, but for many it was a  decent action flick, but not really of the DIE HARD mold, especially with the toned down violence and naughty words.

Granted, A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD still has that cool-but-not-die-hard vibe going, but I’ve slowly come around to the film, even with my skepticism of director John Moore and the Russian setting.  Bruce Willis‘ co-star, Jai Courtney proved that he’s got some good onscreen energy in JACK REACHER, enough that I was sold on the idea of him as McClane’s son.  It may seem silly to get excited over a rating, but many of us have been hoping Fox would come around and recognize the brand they’re working with. For whatever reason, they seem to be doing just that.

Expect an official announcement very soon, but for now you can rest easy and up the odds in favor of a kick ass entry into the DIE HARD universe.

A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, rated-R, will be released on February 14, 2013 (just about a month away!)
