Charlize Theron in talks to join Sean Penn’s refugee drama The Last Space

Sean Penn hasn't directed a movie since 2007's INTO THE WILD, but he's planning on filming a new project this summer, and it may star Charlize Theron. Several sources have told The Wrap Theron is in talks to join the drama THE LAST SPACE, however a representative for Sean Penn did say the film is still in the early stages of development.

Theron will join French actress Adèle Exarchopoulos (BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR), who recently told Allocine she'll have a small part in the film. Exarchopoulos also said, "the story concerns human encounters within the refugee camps in Sudan, Liberia."

Both Sean Penn and Charlize Theron are known for their humanitarian work, so it's no surprise to see either of them attached to a project involving refugee camps. My only problem is films like this tend to get a little preachy. I can appreciate movies about the horrible things that happen in the world, however I also can't stand someone hitting me in the face for two hours with whatever point they're trying to make with their film. But I've enjoyed all of Sean Penn's work as a director, and hopefully he can land Charlize Theron for his new movie.

Charlize Theron's next big screen appearance will be in Seth MacFarlane's A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST, and the comedy will hit theaters on May 30th, 2014.
