Director Bryan Singer shares “Magneto’s tools” implying there will be either torture or dental work in X-Men:DOFP

Director Bryan Singer is following suit along with fellow filmmakers Marc Webb and James Mangold, as he continues to use the Twitter machine to share bits and pieces of his upcoming superhero/mutant opus, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, be it casting info, sets, or props.  Today, the director shared a photo of what looks to be either a standard issue torture set, dentist kit, or gardening tools, with the only description being, “Magneto’s tools.” 

Given Michael Fassbender‘s vengeful portrayal of Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, where he used his powers to pull teeth (albeit without tools), shoot, stab, and “coin toss” kill certain individuals it wouldn’t be hard to believe that he’d continue that trend as the “younger” evil mutant.  However, Ian McKellen‘s portrayal of Magneto hasn’t exactly been of a timid grandfather, so I wouldn’t rule out either character doing a little “gardening” on some of their foes.

I think Fassbender and McKellen bring a tremendous gravitas to the character of Magneto and are perfectly cast to portray the Master of Magnetism at two different stages of his existence, so regardless of who they’re torturing, I have little doubt that they’ll be in top form.  On another note, it was announced that John Ottman would be scoring the film, which isn’t much of a surprise considering that he’s Singer’s go-to composer.  However, I’m disappointed that X-MEN: FIRST CLASS composer Henry Jackman won’t be back as his score for that film was the best of 2011 and one of the best superhero scores to date.  Ah, well.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, starring everyone, is set to debut on July 18, 2014.
