Ed Brubaker, creator of The Winter Soldier, was “blown away” by the screenplay for the Captain America sequel

When adapting anything, getting the support of the creator of the source material is always cause to celebrate. Sometimes they author will despise the adaptation (Stephen King versus Stanley Kubrick on THE SHINING) and in other cases they will love what they see. Consider this a case of the latter as Ed Brubaker has good things to say about CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER.

USA Today asked Ed Brubaker about the big screen adaptation of his Winter Soldier storyline and he had this to say:

“I read the script and I was really blown away by it. The tone of it and the Bucky stuff is so perfect and the way I’d want it to be, I was so thrilled to see that. But to me the biggest thing, too, is it’s the first time Marvel has put out a movie where there’s a specific book the title of the movie relates to.”

Reading the script may not be indicative of the final product, but I take this as a very good sign about the movie. The script from Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely is one thing, but if Joe and Anthony Russo truly capture the 1970s conspiracy thriller feel they have been touting, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is going to be damn good.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER starring Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Emily VanCamp, Frank Grillo, Hayley Atwell, Robert Redford, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, and Toby Jones opens April 4, 2014.
