First look at Shailene Woodley in Neil Burger’s adaptation of Divergent

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Shailene Woodley is set to blow up with her upcoming roles in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 and DIVERGENT, which is based on the best-selling YA novel by author Veronica Roth. Taking a cue from the similar success of THE HUNGER GAMES franchise, DIVERGENT is a female-driven adventure set in a dystopian future with a lean on social class warfare, where society is divided up into five factions. Woodley stars as the lead, Pris, who is the requisitte “chosen one” of the series. In this first image from the film, Woodley is seen standing still while knives are being tossed at her head after she takes the place of a “fellow Dauntless initiate.”

Don’t even blink:

Here’s the synopsis:

DIVERGENT is a thrilling adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late. A man with a mysterious past, Four is Tris’s intense yet charismatic instructor and one of the leaders of the Dauntless faction.

I feel like Woodley got a bad rap for daring to step out into the light with no make-up on the set of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, but she will more than likely prove herself in the long run. She was terrific in Alexander Payne‘s THE DESCENDENTS and she’s definitely got the charisma and looks to carry herself through to leading lady status. With both Spidey 2 and DIVERGENT onboard for next year, I reckon she’ll test her mettle and then some.

DIVERGENT, directed by Neil Burger (LIMITLESS) and starring Shailene Woodley, Ashley Judd, Ray Stevenson, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney, Theo James, Maggie Q, Zoe Kravitz, Mekhi Phifer, and Tony Goldwyn is set for release on March 21, 2014.
