Greenpeace uses LEGOs to say that everything is NOT awesome

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

While I haven’t had a chance to check out THE LEGO MOVIE yet, I am familiar with its surprisingly catchy tune, ‘Everything is Awesome’. I’m not saying I listen to it every day or anything, but if it happens to be playing in the background or something . . . I’d be okay with it, is all. That brings us to this video. Shell stations have partnered with the LEGO brand to sell Shell-specific (say that five times fast) LEGO bricks in their gas stations. Greanpeace didn’t take too kindly to this plan of action, and released the following video:

In Greanpeace’s words:

We love LEGO. You love LEGO. Everyone loves LEGO. But when LEGO’s halo effect is being used to sell propaganda to children, especially by an unethical corporation who are busy destroying the natural world our children will inherit, we have to do something.

Regardless of how you feel about their political agenda, there’s no denying that the video is a very clever bit of marketing (was that Jon Snow?), taking advantage of the wildy popular LEGO MOVIE, and actually churning out a really good cover that juxtaposes nicely with the images on-screen. For those who feel inclined to participate, you can click here to sign a petition against LEGO’s participation with Shell.

For those who prefer the original iteration of ‘Everything is Awesome’, THE LEGO MOVIE is on Blu-ray and DVD now, and you can check out our review here.
