Guardians of the Galaxy brings 70s hits back to the top of the charts

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I think you GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY fans may get a kick out of this, as 70s classics are now finding themselves inexplicably at the top of the music charts! It’s great to see everyone embracing GUARDIANS so fully, especially it’s retro soundtrack that fit the film like a glove. The official soundtrack (Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1) is currenlty number 1 on both the iTunes and Amazon digital-album sales, as well as number 2 on Amazon’s overall CD sales.

In case you need a reminder, here’s the tracklist:

1. Blue Swede – Hooked on a Feeling

2. Raspberries – Go All the Way

3. Norman Greenbaum – Spirit in the Sky

4. David Bowie – Moonage Daydream

5. Elvin Bishop – Fooled Around and Fell in Love

6. 10Cc – I’m Not in Love

7. Jackson 5 – I Want You Back

8. Redbone – Come and Get Your Love

9. The Runaways – Cherry Bomb

10. Rupert Holmes – Escape (The Pina Colada Song)

11. The Five Stairsteps – O-O-H Child

12. Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell – Ain’t No Mountain High Enough

Including these classic tracks was a stroke of genius that not only connected the audience with our otherworldly characters but made sense from a narrative standpoint (unlike, say, a Tarantino flick). I would love to see Peter Quill make it back to Earth in a sequel, as I could just imagine him spending a lot of time in a vintage record shop, or having Rocket scrounge up parts to make him a tape recorder.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is now in theaters!
