Justin Lin will direct Jeremy Renner in the fifth Bourne movie

After his phenomenal success on the last four FAST AND FURIOUS movies, director Justin Lin has been linked to almost every high profile project since. Those rumors have come and gone, but we now know what the next movie will be for the in demand filmmaker.

Deadline is reporting that Justin Lin will helm the untitled sequel to THE BOURNE LEGACY featuring Jeremy Renner reprising his role of Aaron Cross. This will mark the fifth entry in the franchise and the second without Matt Damon in the lead. Rumors have long circulated that Renner and Damon may share the screen in a BOURNE film but they have so far not come to fruition. Maybe THE BOURNE LEGACY sequel will be that film.

Lin replaces Tony Gilroy who directed THE BOURNE LEGACY. While that film was a modest success for Universal, it did not fare nearly as well as the three Matt Damon films. But, Lin re-invigorated the Vin Diesel series with FAST FIVE that changed the focus from racing to heists. Hopefully he can do the same for BOURNE and deliver something that freshens up the franchise.
