Birdman Cast

There are few things I love more than a good dark comedy. Films like IN BRUGES, HAPPINESS, and KILLER JOE make this dark heart beat just a little bit faster when I watch them. While other people may question if they should be finding humor in certain subject matters or situations, I’d rather just laugh. I may have chuckled during parts of PRECIOUS…sorry.

That’s why this news from THR makes me very, very happy. They are reporting that Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis, and Naomi Watts have signed on for the film BIRDMAN. The film is described as:

A dark comedy that follows a former actor, who once played an iconic superhero, as he mounts a Broadway play based on a Raymond Carver short story in a bid to reclaim past glory. However, the play’s egotistical leading man threatens to throw everything down the tubes.

Michael Keaton will be playing the part of the actor who is trying to get back into the game, which in itself is hilarious. Emma Stone will play Keaton’s daughter that has just been released from rehab who is also his assistant. Naomi Watts will be the actress for the play Keaton’s character wants to put on, and Zach Galifianakis will play a conspiring producer. Now that’s some awesome casting.

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu will be directing BIRDMAN, which makes the film even more intriguing since he’s usually known for helming critically acclaimed gut-wrenching dramas like AMORES PERROS and 21 GRAMS. There are still a couple of roles left to cast (the leading man of the play and the ex-wife) and I can’t wait to see who they add to the mix. Who do you want to see Michael Keaton clash with?

Production should start sometime in April.
