Mon Ami! X-Men producer says Gambit movie with Channing Tatum could happen

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The Cajun mutant known as Gambit has always been a fan favorite and one of the most desired to see on the big screen. His first appearance came in the form of Taylor Kitsch in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, which just wasn't enough to appease the rabid fanbase (like most of the movie). We heard star Channing Tatum toss his name into the mix last year while promoting WHITE HOUSE DOWN and now he's actually got X-MEN producer Lauren Shuler Donner fighting in his corner, saying:

"I'm dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story. He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart."

Tatum, who owns a night club in New Orleans called "Saints and Sinners" and frequents the region, grew up in the bayou's of Mississippi and seems to feel that he's got the pulse of the region, which would in turn help his portrayal of Gambit. Unfortunately, I can already feel the sting of fan rage that will no doubt follow this news, which has seemingly gone from pipe dream to near reality. Personally, I'm not against it, but I'm not sold either. However, getting movies like this greenlit usually requires a name star to carry the film and with Tatum attached and Shuler Donner backing him it's chances of happening are greatly improved.

The next mutant flick, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, hits theaters on May 23, 2014.
